Introduction

The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) supports State and local government agencies, as well as local non-profit organizations and the citizens of Maryland, by providing facilities management, real estate and surplus property services, as well as security and law enforcement for State buildings. DGS is also responsible for a full spectrum of facilities engineering, design and construction services, almost $1 billion in annual contract administration, and overseeing the State procurement process. Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for planning, organizing and managing the building services operations of six (6) State Office facilities within a geographic region. The region consists of Legislative Services, 90 State Circle, Shaw House, 21 State Circle, Wine land, 16 Francis Street, State House, 100 State Circle, Governor’s Mansion, State Circle and the Old Treasury Building, State Circle. The regional headquarters is located in the State House at 100 State Circle. This position is responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of routine and preventive maintenance as well as major repairs, alterations, improvements, housekeeping and grounds.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience : Five years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes

  • Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.

Desired Or Preferred Qualifications

Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding all qualifications.

Experience with Excel and Microsoft Office Word.

Experience in customer service and being able to communicate with building tenants and stakeholders.

Experience as a building manager of a commercial facility monitoring maintenance operations.

Experience overseeing the application of policies, laws and regulations.

Experience analyzing monthly budget reports.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.
