Job description

The Role

The Regional HR Business Partner (HRBP) is a key member of Green Thumb’s People Team. Based out of our [LOC], this role supports a specific retail region to facilitate rapid and sustainable growth. The HRBP aligns business objectives with HR strategies and talent management, assessing and anticipating talent needs for the designated employee group. This role involves proactive communication with the Retail Regional Director and leadership to develop integrated solutions aligned with organizational goals.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong, progressive understanding of HR functions including employee relations, talent and performance management, labor relations, employment law, benefits, leaves, and recruitment. You should approach business leaders thoughtfully, aiming to build high-performing, engaged teams. Strategic thinking, leadership, and a high-touch approach in a dynamic environment are essential.

This is a remote position supporting the Green Thumb Northeast retail market, including New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Travel up to 75% is required.

Responsibilities

  1. Talent and Performance Management: Identify talent needs, risks, and gaps. Collaborate with leaders to develop career paths, enhance engagement, and implement talent development initiatives. Support performance evaluations and succession planning to strengthen team capacity.
  2. Culture Champion: Contribute to scaling and enhancing company culture, focusing on employee engagement and positioning Green Thumb as a top employer in the cannabis industry.
  3. Employee Relations: Serve as a confidential resource for employees and managers, supporting and escalating issues as needed. Conduct thorough investigations and advise leadership accordingly.
  4. Change Management: Lead or advise on change initiatives, developing communication plans and strategies to mitigate risks and ensure successful implementation.
  5. Program and Process Implementation: Innovate and oversee the rollout and maintenance of HR programs and processes to ensure consistency and scalability.
  6. Relationship Management: Build strong relationships across the organization, partnering with retail management and internal HR teams to support growth and achievement of business objectives.
  7. Employment Law and Leave Policies: Maintain expertise in federal and state employment laws and leave policies, collaborating with Total Rewards to support employee understanding and compliance.
  8. Project Support: Participate in special projects, process improvements, and collaborate with Centers of Excellence such as Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, and Employee Relations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, or Organizational Development; certifications like SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP are preferred.
  • 7+ years of strategic HR Business Partner experience in leading, high-growth companies, preferably with COE structures.
  • Experience supporting retail or fast-paced, complex environments.
  • Experience managing large hourly employee populations and regional HR support is a plus.
  • Union environment experience is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Business acumen with the ability to align HR strategies with financial and operational metrics.
  • Proven leadership and coaching abilities.
  • Operationally detail-oriented with strategic big-picture thinking.
  • Experience partnering with leadership and executing HR initiatives hands-on.
