Food Service Director Responsibilities

  • Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives that enhance the customer experience, workflow, and work environment.
  • Manage duties including hiring, training, developing, coaching, counseling, and terminating department staff as necessary.
  • Administer employment practices fairly and without discrimination, in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Participate in department head meetings and interdisciplinary care plan meetings.
  • Purchase food and supplies within budget, maintaining adequate stock for each meal.
  • Provide guidance over diet planning, menu formulation, preparation, and service of diets.
  • Plan menus in consultation with the Dietary Consultant to ensure compliance with nutritional standards and regulations.
  • Interview residents or family members to obtain diet history when necessary.
  • Maintain records of residents’ food preferences and dislikes.
  • Ensure dietary progress notes are informative and descriptive of services and resident responses.
  • Visit residents periodically to evaluate meal quality and resident satisfaction.
  • Complete dietary documentation accurately, including MDS, Resident Care Planning, and other required forms.
  • Provide nutritious, well-prepared, and timely meals adhering to menus and diet orders.
  • Serve appropriate meals/snacks to residents with special dietary needs.
  • Monitor food production, using standardized recipes and ensuring proper storage.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality and timeliness of service.
