General Responsibilities:

Terracon's South Carolina/Coastal Georgia Region is growing, and we are thrilled to share an exciting financial career opportunity. This role will be responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, developing, workload planning, managing performance, and other related activities for a regional finance team located in Charleston, Columbia, Greensville/Spartanburg, Myrtle Beach, Bluffton, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia. The successful candidate can be based out of any of these locations, offering flexibility and convenience. In addition to leading the regional finance team, this role will partner closely with our Corporate Accounting and Operational Finance teams to guide our financial strategy and contribute to the overall success of the region.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with planning, organizing, and managing financial activities related to project registrations, invoicing, WIP management, revenue recognition, and collections, in partnership with Operational Finance.
  2. Act as an extension of the Project Manager, participating in meetings with regional leadership to address AR, WIP, UR issues, and collaborating on effective, timely resolutions.
  3. Ensure compliance with invoicing procedures according to industry practices and company policies.
  4. Lead a team of accounting professionals to produce accurate, timely, and consistent client invoices, project registrations, and effective collection efforts.
  5. Read, understand, and analyze project contracts related to billing and revenue recognition, understanding how contractual language impacts project financials.
  6. Investigate and escalate financial or contractual project issues to Operational Finance and Operations Management.
  7. Coordinate regional billing and communicate billing services to Operations Project Management.
  8. Receive quality assurance audits from Operational Finance and ensure accountability within the regional team.
  9. Support workload evaluation and monitoring for regional accounting staff.
  10. Review aged WIP and AR to support strategic initiatives and report on unbilled WIP and uncollected AR.
  11. Facilitate smooth workflow of project documentation and invoicing practices with internal and external clients to ensure positive cash flow.
  12. Oversee management of electronic project files related to financial documentation, including contracts, work authorizations, budgets, payment applications, client invoices, and approvals.
  13. Identify, research, and correct billing and AR discrepancies.
  14. Demonstrate proficiency in relevant company software, including project registration systems, billing platforms, and collections tools.
  15. Assist in training Project Managers and support staff on financial reports and tools.
  16. Maintain professionalism and positive interactions with peers, staff, managers, and clients.
  17. Perform data analysis as required or requested.
  18. Participate actively in Operational Accounting initiatives, ERP system improvements, and ad hoc projects.
  19. Oversee regional procurement activities.
  20. Lead safety efforts, ensure safety compliance, and promote a safe work environment.
  21. Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of experience, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years' related experience.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Understanding of common business processes including accounts payable, receivable, invoicing, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and advanced formulas.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
