Job summary
Penhall Company is seeking an Estimator to perform cost estimates for demolition, concrete cutting, and related services. This full-time role requires reviewing drawings, performing takeoffs, and developing bid strategies.
The Estimator will coordinate with branch managers, travel regionally (approximately 30-50%), mentor junior staff, and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating databases. Penhall offers comprehensive benefits.
Qualifications

- Experience estimating projects from small service work to multi-million-dollar projects.

- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
- Valid Real ID driver's license with regional travel.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and complete cost estimates for demolition and related services.
- Review drawings, specs, contracts, schedules, bid documents, and project requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, equipment, subcontractor, disposal, and material pricing.
- Develop bid and pricing strategies balancing competitiveness, capacity, risk, and profitability.
- Solicit and level subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare proposals, bid packages, scope clarifications, exclusions, assumptions, and value-engineering options.
- Participate in project reviews to compare estimated versus actual costs.
- Travel throughout the assigned region as required.
- Lead estimating turnover meetings and support project startup with clear scope and risks.
- Maintain estimating databases and templates; share knowledge across the region.

Estimator performs a variety of standard estimating activities (individually or as part of a team) on an assigned project/program. The Estimator at this level is responsible for the overall planning and coding efforts to produce comprehensive production based project cost estimates. The successful applicant will provide data and cost analysis for estimate review and presentations, will be responsible for developing bid strategies, site investigations, managing contracts, takeoffs, detailed breakdown of cost components, indirect cost and analysis of margins, and demonstrates familiarity in applying company policies and assigned project/program practices and procedure This is a full-time position, with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits offered.
- Prepare accurate and complete cost estimates for demolition, selective demolition, concrete cutting, environmental remediation, and related specialty services.
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, bid documents, and project requirements to establish a complete understanding of scope.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop labor, equipment, subcontractor, disposal, and material pricing.
- Identify constructability challenges, commercial exposure, safety considerations, schedule impacts, and other project risks.
- Develop bid and pricing strategies that balance competitiveness, capacity, risk, and target profitability.
- Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Prepare comprehensive proposals, bid packages, scope clarifications, exclusions, assumptions, alternates, and value-engineering options.
- Participate in project reviews to compare estimated versus actual costs and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Travel throughout the assigned region as required.
- Partner with Branch Managers and Operations teams to ensure estimates reflect field capabilities, labor availability, equipment resources, production rates, and regional market conditions.
- Lead estimating turnover meetings and support project startup by clearly communicating scope, assumptions, risks, schedule, and pricing strategy.
- Provide estimating support during preconstruction and early project execution when scope or conditions require clarification.
- Lead or participate in post-project reviews to compare estimated versus actual performance and improve future estimating accuracy
- Maintain and continuously improve estimating databases, production rates, bid templates, and historical cost information.
- Recommend process and technology improvements that increase estimating speed, consistency, collaboration, and accuracy.
- Share lessons learned, estimating knowledge, and best practices across the region.
Mentor and support junior estimating team members as assigned
- Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, business management or related field preferred.
- Strong understanding of demolition methods, equipment, sequencing, and safety regulations.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience estimating projects ranging from small service work to multi-million-dollar projects.
