Job summary

Liquid Environmental Solutions is seeking a Regional Environmental Compliance Manager to oversee environmental compliance and permitting across our wastewater treatment facilities. You will partner with Plant Managers, Operations, Laboratory, Engineering, and Corporate EHS to ensure consistent program execution and regulatory adherence.

The role focuses on audits, regulatory inspections, corrective actions, and training to foster a proactive culture of compliance and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of progressive environmental compliance experience in industrial settings.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple facilities or geographic regions.
  • Experience conducting environmental compliance audits and supporting regulatory inspections.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (pretreatment, wastewater permitting, SPCC, stormwater).
  • Experience developing corrective actions, root cause analyses, and resolving compliance issues.
  • Strong technical writing and regulatory reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with operations and leadership.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to travel approximately 50%, including overnight travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary environmental compliance leader for an assigned region of treatment facilities.
  • Provide technical guidance and practical solutions to facility leadership on regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine environmental compliance audits to evaluate permit compliance and practices.
  • Lead facility preparation for environmental inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Investigate compliance issues, permit exceedances, NOVs, and develop corrective actions.
  • Deliver training and coach plant managers on regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Support permitting activities, permit renewals, and regulatory reporting.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Laboratory, Safety, Legal and other teams to integrate compliance into operations.
  • Communicate performance, risks, audit results, and improvement opportunities to the Director.

Regional Environmental Compliance Manager

About the Role

Liquid Environmental Solutions is seeking a Regional Environmental Compliance Manager to support environmental compliance and permitting across our network of wastewater treatment facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring consistent execution of the company's environmental compliance program across multiple facilities by partnering closely with Plant Managers, Operations, Laboratory personnel, Engineering, and Corporate EHS.

The Regional Environmental Compliance Manager serves as the primary environmental resource for assigned facilities, providing technical expertise, conducting compliance audits, leading regulatory inspections, driving corrective actions, and fostering a proactive culture of environmental compliance.

This position reports directly to the Director of Environmental Compliance and plays a key role in reducing regulatory risk, improving operational compliance, and ensuring environmental excellence throughout the organization.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary environmental compliance leader for an assigned region of treatment facilities, partnering with Plant Managers and Operations leadership to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and practical solutions to facility leadership, promoting a proactive culture of environmental compliance and environmental stewardship across assigned sites.
  • Conduct routine environmental compliance audits to evaluate permit compliance, operational practices, recordkeeping, laboratory operations, environmental inspections, and implementation of corporate environmental policies and procedures.
  • Lead facility preparation for environmental inspections conducted by regulatory agencies and assist in coordinating responses to regulatory requests and follow-up actions.
  • Investigate environmental compliance issues, permit exceedances, Notices of Violation (NOVs), and other regulatory findings by conducting root cause analyses, developing corrective action plans, and verifying timely and effective resolution.
  • Deliver environmental compliance training and coach Plant Managers and facility personnel on regulatory requirements, company policies, environmental best practices, and implementation of the Environmental Compliance Playbook.
  • Support environmental permitting activities, permit renewals, regulatory reporting, and interpretation of new or changing environmental regulations impacting company operations.
  • Build collaborative relationships with Operations, Engineering, Laboratory Services, Safety, Maintenance, Legal, and other corporate functions to integrate environmental compliance into daily business operations.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Environmental Compliance regarding facility performance, emerging regulatory risks, audit results, corrective action progress, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Travel approximately 40-60% to treatment facilities within the assigned region to provide hands-on environmental compliance leadership, conduct audits, support inspections, and strengthen operational partnerships.
Qualifications & Competencies

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation in environmental compliance, coupled with the ability to build relationships, influence operations, and drive continuous improvement across multiple facilities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible environmental compliance experience in industrial wastewater, manufacturing, chemical processing, or other regulated industrial environments
  • Experience supporting environmental compliance across multiple facilities or geographic regions
  • Demonstrated experience conducting environmental compliance audits and supporting regulatory inspections
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including industrial pretreatment, wastewater permitting, SPCC, and stormwater requirements
  • Experience developing and implementing corrective actions, conducting root cause analyses, and resolving compliance issues
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing regulatory correspondence, compliance reports, and audit documentation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively partner with operations and executive leadership
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel approximately 50%, including overnight travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the environmental services, wastewater treatment, or liquid waste industry
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), environmental sampling protocols, and chain of custody requirements
  • Experience managing Notices of Violation (NOVs), regulatory inspections, consent orders, or enforcement actions
  • Experience interpreting permit requirements and supporting permit applications or renewals
  • Familiarity with compliance management software or environmental data management systems
Compensation & Schedule
  • Salary Range: $120-135K base + bonus
  • Schedule: Hybrid — in-office Monday through Thursday, remote Friday, with regular travel to plant locations
  • Travel: ~50%
