Basic Function

This position is responsible for energy and related supply and services procurement for the N/E facilities of Gerdau.

Nature and Scope

The Regional Energy Manager is responsible for securing and maintaining competitive arrangements for the supply of electricity, natural gas, industrial gases, fuels, and similar supplies necessary to meet the energy requirements of the Company’s operations in a designated geography (North, Central, South). The incumbent will analyze, develop, coordinate, and implement procurement strategies, keep abreast of market conditions, identify improvement opportunities, collaborate with plant management, and ensure compliance with risk management, accounting, and related policies.

The Regional Energy Manager will prepare requests for proposals, contracts, studies of relevant issues, forecasts, and maintain adequate files and records to compile periodic reports.

The regional focus may evolve as the Company’s needs change due to growth.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will serve as a resource to plant management regarding energy forecasts, communication, and collaboration concerning commercial aspects of energy supply. They will also represent the Company’s interests in local, provincial and national regulatory, professional and political forums under the guidance of the Director of Energy.

The Regional Energy Manager will maintain effective business and professional contacts to stay informed of market conditions, opportunities, and trends while fostering vendor relationships and collaborating with plant personnel to uphold high standards of communication and professional practice.

The major challenge of this position is to meet plant energy requirements while minimizing total long‑term and short‑term costs to Gerdau.

In addition to these primary responsibilities, the Regional Energy Manager will provide expertise and assistance in efficiency, energy use, energy generation, and related process-oriented matters to plant management within the assigned region.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience in energy purchasing, utility regulation, markets, pricing, accounting procedures, and steel manufacturing energy use and costs.
  • A four‑year degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Broad knowledge of energy markets, pricing, accounting procedures, and supply sources.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Establish effective and competitive supply arrangements for energy in the assigned geography.
  • Monitor and maintain up‑to‑date market intelligence and identify opportunities.
  • Develop competitive supply sources and maintain favorable vendor relations.
  • Cooperate with plant management to maintain effective communications regarding needs and ensure efficiency and effectiveness of commercial arrangements.
  • Resolve supplier and Company issues within the scope of this position.
  • Recommend, initiate, and carry out company policies and programs.
  • Represent Company interests in regulatory and political environments.
  • Comply with Corporate risk management policies regarding energy matters.
