Job description

This role is ideal for leaders with experience in wealth management, financial advisory, public accounting, CPA firms, or tax advisory practices.

The Regional Director, Tax & Accounting Services is accountable for the delivery of Tax & Accounting services in a defined U.S. region and accountable for P&L performance, organic growth, client retention, operational scale, integration of acquired firms, and the leadership bench that supports it all. This is a regional business leadership role, not a senior technical seat.

The seat is built for a period of significant scale, integration, and operational maturation. You will inherit teams, processes, and client relationships from both legacy and acquired businesses and unify them into a high-performing regional operation aligned to Earned’s national vision. The work is part operator, part integrator, part talent builder, and part commercial leader, moving the region from a collection of firms into a single, scalable business.

Success requires far more than technical tax and accounting expertise. This leader must lead through ambiguity, drive change across a matrixed organization, elevate team performance, and build alignment during rapid growth. Strategic thinking has to coexist with operational rigor, and the executive presence must carry credibility with clients, acquired partners, senior leadership, and cross-functional commercial teams.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this leader partners closely with Wealth Management, Financial Planning, Client Services, Product, and Transformation and is one of the senior voices shaping how Earned’s Tax & Accounting business is built for the next decade.

Key Responsibilities
Lead Regional Business
  • Own regional business performance for Tax & Accounting: revenue growth, profitability, client retention, operational efficiency, and team performance.
  • Develop and execute a regional business strategy aligned with Earned’s national expansion objectives.
  • Operate with an enterprise mindset: balancing regional execution against firm-wide strategic priorities.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point and executive relationship owner for key regional clients and strategic partnerships.
  • Build strong alignment and trust with Wealth Management leadership, advisors, and acquired-firm principals to drive collaboration and growth.
Drive Operational Transformation and Integration
  • Lead operational integration of acquired firms including workflows, service delivery standards, organizational alignment, and cultural assimilation.
  • Assess inherited operational structures and implement scalable improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and client outcomes.
  • Establish and drive regional KPIs across productivity, turnaround times, utilization, quality, retention, and profitability.
  • Build repeatable operational processes that enable sustainable scale and reduce key-person dependency.
  • Partner with Product and Transformation teams to implement technology-enabled operational improvements and standardized service delivery models.
  • Drive disciplined execution across engagement management, pricing governance, capacity planning, workflow management, and client escalation.
Build and Develop the Leadership Team
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing regional leadership team across tax, accounting, bookkeeping, and operations.
  • Assess organizational capability and make difficult talent decisions when necessary to improve performance and scalability.
  • Build a culture of accountability, operational excellence, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and develop future leaders capable of supporting Earned’s long-term growth strategy.
  • Attract, recruit, and retain high-performing talent in a competitive professional services environment.
  • Lead teams effectively through ambiguity, organizational change, and integration activity.
Deepen Client and Cross-Functional Partnerships
  • Build confidence and trust with acquired partners, advisors, and clients during periods of operational transition.
  • Partner closely with Wealth Management, Financial Planning, Client Services, and advisory teams to deliver an integrated client experience.
  • Ensure tax and accounting services support broader client retention and growth objectives across Earned’s platform.
  • Partner with commercial and advisory teams to expand wallet share, improve referral conversion, and deepen client relationships.
  • Reinforce a client-first culture focused on responsiveness, proactive communication, quality, and long-term relationship development.
Provide Technical and Risk Oversight
  • Provide executive oversight and strategic guidance across tax planning, entity structuring, compliance, and risk management.
  • Ensure the region maintains high standards of technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, fiduciary responsibility, and ethical conduct.
  • Maintain appropriate quality control and escalation frameworks while empowering technical leaders and teams to execute day-to-day delivery.
  • Serve as a strategic leader of the business rather than the primary technical practitioner.
Key Requirements
  • Active or inactive CPA required; advanced degree (Master of Taxation, JD, MBA) preferred
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience within tax, accounting, wealth management, or professional services organizations
  • Demonstrated ownership of a regional business, practice, or operating unit with accountability for revenue growth, profitability, and organizational performance
  • Proven ability to lead organizations through scale, operational transformation, or post-acquisition integration
  • Strong track record of building trust and alignment across matrixed organizations and diverse stakeholder groups
  • Experience assessing inherited teams, improving performance, and building scalable leadership structures
  • Commercial orientation with demonstrated success driving growth, retention, and expansion within client-centric businesses
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, acquired-firm leaders, and cross-functional teams
  • High integrity and unwavering commitment to fiduciary standards, ethics, and compliance
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience serving physicians, dentists, medical practice groups, or high-net-worth clients
  • Experience within a PE-backed, rapidly scaling, or acquisitive environment
  • Familiarity with physician practice structures, pass-through entities, and multi-entity financial environments
  • Experience leading distributed or multi-office professional services organizations
  • Exposure to technology-enabled service delivery and operational modernization initiatives
  • Builds order and accountability in complex, multi-disciplinary environments
  • Moves quickly from diagnosis to implementation
  • Raises standards without creating unnecessary friction
  • Leads experienced experts with inspiration, firmness and respect
  • Balances client quality, professional credibility, and commercial discipline
  • Treats client trust and acquired-firm relationships as core assets — and the day-to-day work of the role
Why Join Earned

Most regional leadership roles in tax and accounting are narrower than they look: heavy on technical leadership and engagement quality, light on influence over what the business actually becomes. This one is different. The Regional Director shapes how Earned’s Tax & Accounting business is built — strategy, operating model, talent, integration, and how it connects to Wealth Management — in a region that will compound for the next decade.

Earned is at the moment of scaling. The firm has a differentiated, physician-focused offering, institutional backing from Summit Partners and Silversmith Capital Partners, and an active acquisition cadence that brings new firms into the regional book continuously. The platform exists; the regional operating model has to catch up with the growth ambition. That is the problem this role exists to solve, and the impact is visible in retention, cross-serve, and the quality of the experience thousands of physician clients actually receive.

The mission matters. Earned exists to solve consequential financial problems for healthcare professionals — people who dedicate a decade to training and often arrive at practice financially unprepared. Every region you build into a high-performing operation extends that mission further. Long-term incentive plan participation is a meaningful component of total compensation.
