Job description

We're partnering with a private equity backed physician practice management organization focused on specialty care. They're hiring a Regional Director of Operations to lead their Southwest region: a large Arizona practice partnership plus smaller markets in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles County. The region covers roughly 55 locations and more than 100 providers, with a team of practice managers and regional leaders reporting in.

This is a role for an operator who is equally comfortable in a monthly operating review and on the floor of a busy clinic. The physicians are true partners in this model. The right person earns their trust by knowing the numbers, showing up in the practices, and following through, while moving the organization's broader strategic initiatives forward.

What you'll do
  • Own operational performance across the region, partnering with physician and practice leadership to set goals, build operating plans, and deliver results.
  • Lead monthly operating reviews, using financial and operational data to spot trends, diagnose performance breakdowns, and drive practical fixes with the right teams.
  • Get into the details at the practice level, improving provider and staff efficiency, patient panel management, and EMR workflows.
  • Lead the operational rollout of new payer and partner relationships, coordinating with IT, analytics, and central operations on reporting, infrastructure, and pilot programs.
  • Help operationalize new care models and programs across the region.
  • Build, develop, and lead a regional team, including recruiting and onboarding new leaders.
  • Report clearly on plans, problems, and progress to senior leadership and physician partners.
What you bring
  • 10+ years of healthcare operations experience, including multi-site physician practice or specialty group leadership with P&L accountability.
  • A track record of leading practice managers and improving performance through hands-on involvement, not just oversight.
  • Strong financial acumen and a habit of making decisions from data.
  • The ability to build credibility and lasting relationships with physicians.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience; MHA, MPH, MBA, or a related master's preferred.
  • Medicare program or EMR optimization experience is a strong plus.
  • Private equity backed or high-growth experience preferred.
Location and travel

This role requires Arizona residency, ideally in the Phoenix metro. About 85% of the work is in Arizona. California travel runs about two days a month at first, then settles to roughly two days a quarter.
