Job Opportunity: Deputy District Attorney

The District Attorney’s Office for the 8th Judicial District is seeking a dedicated Deputy District Attorney to prosecute motor vehicle theft and related major crimes, including violent and organized offenses involving stolen vehicles. These grant-funded roles are part of a statewide initiative in partnership with the Colorado District Attorney’s Council. They will specialize in auto theft, collaborating closely with law enforcement, victims, and fellow prosecutors.

While based in the 8th Judicial District, these attorneys will also serve the 13th (Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, Yuma, Kit Carson), 14th (Grand, Moffat, Routt), and 19th (Weld) Judicial Districts. The position involves significant travel across these regions to handle cases from investigation through trial and sentencing. Responsibilities include supporting ongoing investigations, building strong evidentiary cases, and providing training on auto theft laws and legal standards.

The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in criminal law, especially property crimes, and a strong commitment to public safety.

Attorneys in this position can expect a Monday through Friday schedule from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with periodic evening and weekend work as required.

This is a grant-funded position through June 2025, with potential for extension.

Qualifications:
  • Experience in criminal prosecution, handling felony cases.
  • Current Colorado law license or ability to obtain within two months.
  • Prior experience with felony-level matters is preferred.

Depending on qualifications, the position may be hired as Deputy District Attorney III or IV.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 3+ years of criminal prosecution experience for DDA III.
  • Juris Doctorate degree and Colorado license for DDA IV.
