Job summary

Alexion is seeking a field-based pharmaceutical sales professional in the Boston area with a focus on neurology. You will nurture physician relationships, educate on complex diseases, and drive adoption of infused therapies across hospital and academic settings.

Lead strategic account plans, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and ensure compliant, effective patient education and service delivery within a dynamic market.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5 years of pharmaceutical sales or equivalent experience.
  • Neurology experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience building relationships with physicians in hospital/infusion settings.
  • Ability to travel within territory regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop long-term relationships with assigned physicians, extended prescribers, and other customers in the assigned territory.
  • Represent assigned Alexion brands and approved indications.
  • Provide disease and product education to external customers, including physicians and nurses, to help patients.
  • Consistently achieve or exceed sales objectives in the assigned territory.
  • Create, maintain, and execute strategic account-specific business plans reflecting the brand plan and local market forces.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Account Managers, TLLs, SALs, MSLs, FRMs, Market Access, Diagnostics, and other Enterprise partners.
  • Handle customer questions and objections consistently with product indications and sales training methodology.
  • Compliantly triage inquiries to appropriate partners.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth disease, therapeutic, clinical, and scientific knowledge.
  • Educate on the disease’s diagnostic approach to support effective patient diagnosis.
  • Navigate complex academic and community hospital settings to access targeted healthcare professionals and stakeholders.
  • Use marketing tools and resources, including PowerPoint presentations, to support the selling process.
  • Lead implementation of the patient-centric partnership model with physicians, staff, clinics, and applicable hospitals.
  • Execute local disease education and promotional programs for the therapeutic area.
  • Provide product expertise and customer service to targeted accounts and stakeholders.
  • Track activities and submit accurate, timely sales activity reports.
  • Manage time and prioritize activities in a field-based territory role.

Job description

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proven documented track record of delivering consistent “Top-tier” sales results
  • 5 years of pharmaceutical sales or equivalent experience, such as biotech or medical device
  • Neurology experience strongly preferred
  • Experience building relationships with physicians referring, diagnosing, and/or treating neuromuscular disorders
  • Experience building relationships with healthcare professionals working in locations that administer infused therapies and/or apheresis for immunological disorders, where appropriate
  • Success educating physicians about complex diseases diagnosed mainly through observations/exclusion rather than simple diagnostic tests
  • Success educating physicians about diverse patient disease profiles that do not lend themselves to simple segmentation and categorization for treatment decisions
  • Ability to build and/or strengthen lasting relationships with providers in physician practices and hospitals where access may be challenging
  • Ability to manage territory budget and adhere to Alexion code of ethics and compliance
  • Ability to travel within territory regularly, including frequent overnight and weekend travel
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to travel by public transportation, automobile, train, or plane
  • Ability to work comfortably in a clinical setting
  • Ability to use a computer and communicate via phone, video, and electronic messaging
  • Ability to problem solve and engage in complex and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue
  • Ability to collaborate with others and maintain general availability during standard business hours
  • Master’s in Life Sciences or MBA a plus
  • Bio/pharma, neurology, and/or ophthalmology experience preferred
  • Experience navigating and working with large hospital systems, IDNs, and academic teaching hospitals
