Job Description

Responsible for providing respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities, under supervision of physician.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Evaluate prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and assess patient condition to determine treatment requirements.
2. Administer aerosol medications and treatments, position patients to assist breathing, and prevent lung obstruction.
3. Determine suitable methods of administering inhalants, observe precautions, and modify treatments as needed per physician’s orders.
4. Set up and operate devices such as ventilators, gas administration apparatus, and aerosol generators.
5. Monitor patient responses to therapy, including vital signs and blood gases.
6. Perform chest physiotherapy and assist with breathing exercises.
7. Assist in diagnostic testing, including pulmonary function tests.
8. Inspect and test respiratory equipment, ensure safety, and coordinate repairs.
9. Provide patient education, support, and demonstrate procedures to trainees and staff.
10. Care for special populations such as premature infants, elderly, and trauma patients.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Associate of Science degree from an accredited respiratory therapist program (required).
• Bachelor's Degree (highly preferred).

Experience

• Minimum 1+ years of respiratory care experience.
• Critical care and pulmonary testing experience (highly preferred).
• Experience with EPIC charting (highly preferred).

Licenses & Certifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from NBRC (required).
• Current BLS certification; ACLS preferred or to be obtained within 12 months.
• Active Respiratory Therapy license in New Jersey (required).
