Summary
General A Registered Polysomnographic Technologist has learned all skills necessary to perform as a Sleep Technologist in routine testing. Must be able to independently prepare patients, conduct routine PSG recordings and collect all information pertinent to the interpretation of these tests. Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist is responsible for the continued learning and performance of Sleep procedures according to the established policies of the department and North Oaks Health System. All of the responsibilities below will be performed in a manner, which will promote and maintain a positive community and professional image for the department and hospital. The responsibilities will be performed with an attitude supportive to change and the employee will be expected accept the responsibility for maintaining an acceptable pattern. All employees will be expected to contribute and participate, when requested, in the Health System's Quality Improvement Programs. Also, all of the responsibilities will be accomplished in a manner that will not have a negative impact on the employee relations efforts of this department and the Health System. The direct patient care provided in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department policies and procedures. Responsibilities

Implementation of a written or verbal order from a licensed physician that requires the practice of polysomnography, including Out of Center Sleep Testing (OCST) ii. Positive airway pressure titration on spontaneously breathing patients iii. Supplemental low flow oxygen therapy during polysomnogram (up to six (6) liters per minute) iv. Capnography during polysomnogram v. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation vi. Pulse oximetry vii. pH probe placement and monitoring viii. Esophageal pressure ix. Sleep staging, including surface electroencephalography, surface electrooculography, and surface submental electromyography x. Surface electromyography of arms and legs xi. Electrocardiography xii. Respiratory effort monitoring including thoracic and abdominal signals xiii. Plethysmography blood flow xiv. Nasal and oral airflow monitoring xv. Body temperature monitoring xvi. Audio/video monitoring of movement and behavior during sleep xvii. Monitoring positive airway pressure modalities used to treat sleep related breathing disorders, including the effect on sleep patterns, provided that the device does not extend into the trachea xviii. Monitoring the effects on sleep patterns of an oral appliance that does not extend into the trachea and that is used to treat sleep apnea xix. Analyzing and scoring data that may be used by a licensed physician in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep and wake disorders that result from developmental defects, the aging process, physical injury, disease, or actual or anticipated somatic dysfunction xx. Observing and monitoring physical signs and symptoms, general behavior, and general physical response to polysomnographic evaluation xxi. Providing Durable Medical Equipment (DME) to patients xxii. Coordinating patient care and education xxiii. Therapy compliance xxiv. Educating patients and their caregiversb. \Tracking and management of disease state and outcomesDemonstrates a complete working knowledge of all Sleep Lab equipment used for diagnostic radiology and intra-procedural imaging.c. Demonstrates proficient and economic use of supplies, communication equipment, technical equipment, and computer technologies.d. Performs visual inspection of equipment, identifies problems and communicates to immediate supervisor.e. Reviews physician orders, checking for special instructions from requesting physician, and consults with the radiologist as necessary.f. Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification and introductions.g. Completely explains examination procedure to the patient and their family if present.h. Ability to anticipate and meet the needs and expectations of customers.i. Contact the Sleep Lab Supervisor/Manager for equipment service issues as appropriate.j. Participates in appropriate education and on-the-job learning situations in order to develop necessary job skills.k. Demonstrates the ability to perform multiple tasks as required.l. Maintains necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items.e. Ensures all equipment is in good working condition.VII. Infection Control:· Demonstrates understanding of isolation procedures/precautions and assist in the cleaning, disinfecting, reassembly and repackaging of all non-disposable items, according to policies and procedures.j.
