Qualifications

Job description

Job Title: Reg. Echo Tech
Unit: Cardio-Pulmonary Services
Shift: PRN, Varied
Facility: UVMC

Independently performs diagnostic cardiac echocardiology procedures utilizing proper techniques and protocols. Works under their scope of practice and in accordance with registry in the operation of equipment. Coordinates patient flow and the activities of the Cardiopulmonary Department. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of duties to maintain equipment in good working condition. May perform other cardiology procedures in other modalities based on departmental needs. May have on-call responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Functions:
  1. Performs echocardiography procedures of diagnostic quality as ordered by the referring physician and/or cardiologist on patients of all ages according to established protocols and evaluates.
  2. Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the procedure.
  3. Performs QC as required.
  4. Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction.
  5. Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about the exam.
  6. Ensures that all records, files, and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure.
  7. Follows departmental safety policies and procedures.
Education Required:

Associate degree in Allied Health with a major in Ultrasound/Sonographer.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer credentialed by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • CPR Certification required.
Experience Required:

No prior job-related work experience.

Preferred Experience:

Three years of clinical experience in all facets of echocardiography and demonstrate appropriate competencies.

Knowledge/Skills:
  • Proficient in performing diagnostic procedures and obtaining diagnostic images for physician interpretation.
  • Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Proficient in Cardiology Information Systems.
