Job summary

The City of Oxnard’s Public Works Department, Environmental Resources Division, is seeking a skilled Refuse Driver to operate heavy commercial vehicles and provide safe, courteous service to residents and businesses. Strong driving, safety, and customer service abilities are essential.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of solid waste collection experience and a valid California CDL with an air brake endorsement, plus a commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Three years of experience in solid waste or related collections.
• Valid California Class B or A CDL with medical card and air brake endorsement.
• Ability to communicate in English and provide safe, courteous customer service.
• Pass background and driving record checks.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy commercial refuse and recycling vehicles safely and efficiently.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report defects.
• Transport materials to designated disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities.
• Maintain clean, safe, and professional equipment and work areas.
• Provide route coverage and support during staffing shortages or emergencies.
• Respond professionally to customer inquiries and service requests.
