Job summary

The City of Frederick is seeking a Refuse Collector to support curbside and containerized refuse pickup. Under general supervision, you will operate a collection vehicle and handle the hydraulic packer, ensuring safe and efficient service for residents.

This position is considered essential personnel and may require responding to emergencies outside normal hours. Candidates should have up to three months of related experience and a valid Vehicle Operator’s license, with the ability to work in

JOB SUMMARY:

The City of Frederick promotes a service-delivery philosophy among City employees to provide responsive service to residents, to be efficient and results-oriented in order to make the City of Frederick a better place to live, work and visit. Under general supervision, the Refuse Collector collects curbside and containerized refuse and places it into the collection vehicle. An employee in this position is considered “essential personnel” and must be able to respond to emergencies outside normal business hours as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collects curbside and containerized refuse, placing it into collection vehicle.
• Operates the collection vehicle's hydraulic packer system to compact collected refuse.
• Assists driver in safely maneuvering vehicle during collection operations.
• Adheres to safety rules and accident prevention measures.
• Performs other duties asassigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• One (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training in performance of heavy manual work is desirable; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES AND/OR LICENSES:

• Vehicle Operator’s license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City’s insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.

OTHER DESIRABLES:
