Job summary

Bethany Christian Services USA LLC in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Food Service Coordinator to manage kitchen operations for residential programs and campus events. You will maintain sanitary standards, manage inventory, coordinate catering for residents, and ensure compliance with health and licensing requirements.

Associates degree in Culinary Arts preferred and ServSafe certification required, with a clean driving record and reliable transportation.

  • Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks.
  • Must possess ServSafe and ServSafe Allergens Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean sanitary and safe kitchen in accordance to Health Department standards.
  • Ensure equipment is clean and maintained.
  • Assure quality food service is provided to all Bethany Residential programs and at staff events.
  • Maintain recipes and digital daily records for meal and snack production, temperatures, and sanitation.
  • Maintain digital daily records for auditing, licensing, and accreditation reviews.
  • Promptly order or directly purchase needed supplies.
  • Receive and account for supplies from wholesaler.
  • Meet with supervisor regularly to discuss menu and catering events.
  • Attend required training and conferences and apply knowledge on the job.
  • Communicate with community resources as needed.
  • Provide requested and reasonable catering services to other programs on campus while maintaining priority to program resident needs.
  • Provide opportunities for residents to serve as an “assistant” in the kitchen as requested.
  • Serve as a role model and provide skill building to youth, as needed.
  • Be knowledgeable and mindful of religious and cultural concerns that relate to providing food services to refugee programs.

How Your Role Makes a Difference

  • Attend required training and conferences and apply knowledge on the job;

  • Stay knowledgeable and up to date on the residents’ dietary restrictions, allergies, and other meal preparation needs;
  • Essential job responsibilities may vary based on the specific needs of each program/department;
  • May be required or asked to participate in a Bethany sponsored event;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
What Will Make You Successful
  • Associates level degree in Culinary Arts or similar field of study from an accredited college preferred;
  • At least one (1) year of hands on experience, preferred;
  • Must possess and maintain the ServSafe and ServSafe Allergens Certification;
  • Must be reliable with time sensitive deadlines and tasks;
  • Strong organizational skills and a team player;
  • Successfully pass a TB test annually and document preference to receive or decline Hepatitis immunization;
  • Exhibit integrity and good moral character to provide appropriate care;
  • Possess the relevant experience and/or qualifications to work with these clients and clients with special needs; and,
  • Be properly trained and licensed, as necessary.
  • Must be able to show proof of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route:
  • TDap or Tdap: Complete primary vaccination series. If primary vaccination series completed in childhood, one Tdap dose in adulthood;
  • Results of medical examination (as required by State Licensing, including results of TB tests and immunization records);
  • Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany;
  • Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage;
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Commitment to Unity.
