This position is for 2nd & 3rd shift Refrigeration Technicians.
Description Summary
Organizes and performs advanced service, repairs, troubleshooting and overhauls to Anhydrous Ammonia Refrigeration System(s) in a manner that complies with federal, state, local, IIAR and RETA codes and standards, as well as company rules, PSM/RMP policies, safe work practices and RAGAGEP’s.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Fulfills all duties as necessary, described within the Refrigeration Operator job description, and abides by all requirements therein.
- Checks ammonia valves located on the roof of the manufacturing plant, outside condenser and exhaust fans.
- Executes complex repairs and major overhauls to system components and associated equipment, utilizing OEM recommendations and specifications and recognized engineering practices.
- Understands electrical schematics, PLC control functions, and electrical distribution systems; troubleshoots root causes and determines proper repairs.
- Performs charging, evacuation, and pressure testing of system vessels and components during projects and line-breaking procedures according to policies and standards.
- Performs installation and replacement of refrigeration system components and equipment following management of change procedures.
- Analyzes system data and trending to determine maintenance needs and improve procedures and safety practices.
- Assists management in supervising and documenting contractor activities on or around process equipment.
- Plans resolutions to system deficiencies noted in PSM audit logs, maintaining documentation to support activities.
- Provides guidance and technical expertise to operation-level refrigeration operators to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Participates in the Emergency Response Team, responding to chemical releases and spills.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of verifiable ammonia refrigeration experience.
- RETA Industrial Ammonia Operator Level II certification, RETA CIRO certification, Hazmat Technician Level, and annual refresher training.
- Medical evaluation including physical and pulmonary testing for Hazmat, pre-employment and annually.
Abilities, Knowledge, and Skills
- Skills to repair, maintain, and troubleshoot machinery.
- Critical thinking to evaluate solutions.
- Knowledge of machines, tools, and their maintenance.
- Ability to wear respirators and respond to emergencies.
- Ability to work at heights and in hazardous environments.
Physical Requirements
No unusual physical requirements; position is consistent with manufacturing roles.
Work Environment
Primarily indoor manufacturing setting with some outdoor work, including roof access. Safety equipment required, including PPE and Hazmat gear when necessary.
