Job description

Refrigeration Technician, ON, Industrial Maintenance - Greensboro

Join the Publix Super Markets Industrial Refrigeration team as a Refrigeration Technician! You will service ammonia refrigeration systems in our warehouses and manufacturing facilities to maintain optimal climate conditions and ensure product freshness. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment. This role is vital for maintaining our production quality and volume.

The available positions are Refrigeration Technician Class A, B, or C, depending on qualifications and experience.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Maintain and operate industrial refrigeration systems
  • Perform daily rounds to monitor temperatures and humidity, making adjustments as needed
  • Repair and perform preventive maintenance on ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems, including compressors, pumps, fans, heat exchangers, glycol systems, motors, and power systems
  • Train entry-level technicians and oversee daily operations, inspections, and repairs, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • Participate in process improvement activities to enhance system efficiency and minimize downtime
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in the work environment
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years old
  • Ability to obtain EPA Section 608 certification within one year
  • Ability to obtain medical clearance for respiratory protection within two weeks
  • Ability to lift at least 65 pounds
  • Experience with hand tools and maintaining them
  • Excellent work habits aligned with GMP standards
  • Adherence to OSHA, PSM, HAZMAT, and Publix safety protocols
  • Physical ability to walk, lift, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
  • Knowledge of handling and recycling refrigerants like CFC, HCFC, and ammonia
  • Skill in replacing mechanical and electrical components
  • Ability to read schematics and drawings
  • Experience with maintenance management systems
  • Strong communication skills and computer literacy (Word, Excel)
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and in teams
  • Flexible to work any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with glycol, heat exchangers, HVAC, water chillers
  • Electrical systems troubleshooting, including 480V systems
  • Experience with ammonia or Freon refrigeration systems
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation and PLC control systems
  • Hazmat Certification and RETA certification

Compensation & Bonuses

Annual bonus includes a Holiday Bonus in November, starting at 15 hours' pay in the first year, increasing to a week's pay in the second year, and two weeks' pay in subsequent years, contingent on employment continuity.
