Job summary

IRPros / PRAC – Precision Refrigeration & Air Conditioning is seeking an experienced Ammonia Refrigeration Technician to join our industrial refrigeration team. You will service, maintain, install, repair and troubleshoot ammonia-based systems at customer sites.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with industrial refrigeration equipment, strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer service.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years HVAC experience in industrial/commercial settings.
• Experience with large-scale HVAC systems (chillers, cooling towers, boilers).
• EPA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
• Diagnose issues involving compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, piping, controls, VFDs, and related equipment.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and identify repair needs, safety concerns, or opportunities to improve system performance.
• Assist with equipment installations, system startups, commissioning, and service projects at customer facilities.
• Respond to service calls and emergency breakdowns in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, P&IDs, electrical schematics, control drawings, and equipment documentation.

Ammonia Refrigeration Technician

IRPros / PRAC – Precision Refrigeration & Air Conditioning is seeking an experienced Ammonia Refrigeration Technician to join our industrial refrigeration team. This role is responsible for the service, maintenance, installation, repair, and troubleshooting of industrial refrigeration systems using ammonia as a refrigerant.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with industrial refrigeration equipment, strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer service. This position requires the ability to work independently at customer sites while communicating clearly with clients, service coordinators, management, and other team members. Must have Ammonia experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
• Diagnose issues involving compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, piping, controls, VFDs, and related refrigeration equipment.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and identify repair needs, safety concerns, or opportunities to improve system performance.
• Assist with equipment installations, system startups, commissioning, and service projects at customer facilities.
• Respond to service calls and emergency breakdowns in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, P&IDs, electrical schematics, control drawings, and equipment documentation.
• Use specialized tools and equipment to repair, rebuild, or replace defective refrigeration components.
• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, parts usage, and job documentation.
• Follow all company policies, customer site requirements, OSHA, EPA, and ammonia refrigeration safety procedures.
• Communicate findings, repair recommendations, and system concerns clearly to customers and internal team members.
• Provide professional customer service while representing IRPros / PRAC in the field.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with industrial refrigeration technology, safety practices, and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3–5 years of HVAC experience preferred, ideally in a commercial or industrial environment.
• Experience with large-scale HVAC systems, including chillers, cooling towers, rooftop units, air handlers, and boilers.
• Strong understanding of HVAC electrical systems, controls, refrigerants, mechanical systems, and troubleshooting practices.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• EPA Certification preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use service software, email, and work order systems.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Must be willing to work on-call hours, overtime, and travel to customer sites as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access rooftops or mechanical rooms.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and in varying temperatures or weather conditions.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and perform physical work for extended periods.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, gauges, lifts, and related service equipment.
