Accelera Staffing in Madison, WI is seeking an experienced technician to manage and maintain ammonia-based cooling systems in cold-storage or food processing environments. You will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair compressors, condensers, evaporators, PLCs and VFDs; keep precise maintenance logs; and ensure safety per FDA, USDA, OSHA and GMP standards.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of professional experience with industrial ammonia cooling systems.
• Experience with screw/reciprocating compressors, condensers, evaporators and related ammonia hardware.
• Familiarity with safety and regulatory requirements (RMP/PSM).
• Ability to read manuals, schematics, blueprints and P&IDs.
• Capable of diagnosing complex issues with minimal supervision.

Compensation

The hourly rate ranges from $35 to $40, with potential adjustments depending on your specific background and professional skills.

Core Duties

• Manage, observe, and repair ammonia-based cooling infrastructure, covering components like compressors, condensers, evaporators, and control valves.
• Execute routine preventive and predictive maintenance tasks across all cooling machinery to ensure reliability.
• Detect and resolve system inefficiencies, faulty parts, or refrigerant leaks.
• Keep precise records of system performance metrics, operational logs, and any maintenance performed.
• Help maintain a safe working environment for the entire team by strictly adhering to FDA, USDA, OSHA, and GMP safety standards.
• Service and diagnose issues with boilers, HVAC units, chillers, air compressors, and related utility systems.
• Minimize production interruptions by providing rapid response to emergency equipment malfunctions.
• Support the team during seasonal transitions, system calibrations, and equipment startup or shutdown sequences.
• Document all maintenance activities, including parts inventory, work orders, and system logs with high accuracy.
• Provide support during regulatory inspections, audits, and the preparation of compliance reports.

Required Skills and Experience

• Between two and five years of professional experience with industrial ammonia cooling systems, ideally within cold-storage or food processing environments.
• Familiarity with industrial cooling hardware, such as screw and reciprocating compressors, condensers, evaporators, PLC controls, and VFDs.
• Strong grasp of ammonia safety protocols and RMP/PSM regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency in interpreting technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and P&IDs.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex issues and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
• Physical capacity to lift 50 lbs and work comfortably in varied temperature environments, including hot, cold, or wet conditions.
• Flexibility to support overtime, weekend shifts, or on-call rotations as business needs dictate.
