Job summary

Greater Omaha Packing Co., Inc is seeking an experienced Ammonia Refrigeration Operator to maintain and troubleshoot industrial refrigeration systems in a demanding processing environment. The role requires a GCAP Operator 1 certificate and the ability to work with centralized and local control systems.

Candidates must be mechanically minded, detail oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• GCAP Operator 1 Certificate or similar from recognized Ammonia Refrigeration Training source.
• Experience with refrigeration process and ammonia refrigeration operations and maintenance.
• Experience with Process Safety Management requirements for operating an ammonia refrigeration system.
• Ability to perform maintenance and repairs to the refrigeration system involving oil draining, oil changes, safety checks, starting/stopping compressors, evaporators, condensers.
• Ability to operate both remote, central controls and local controls.
• Experience with blast freezers and 2 stage systems, swing compressors, high/low stage compressors, booster compressors.
• Ability to troubleshoot minor electrical and controls issues.
• Ability and willingness to participate in HAZMAT training and participation in HAZWOPR.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain ammonia refrigeration systems, performing routine maintenance and repairs.
• Monitor and control refrigeration equipment using remote/central and local controls.
• Support start-up, operation, and shutdown procedures for complex refrigeration setups.
• Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues and coordinate with maintenance teams.

Job description

• Thorough understanding of refrigeration process with experience in industrial refrigeration and ammonia refrigeration operations and maintenance.
• Experience with Process Safety Management requirements for operating an ammonia refrigeration system.
• Ability to perform maintenance and repairs to the refrigeration system involving, but not limited to, oil draining, oil changes, safety checks, starting/stopping compressors, starting/setting/stopping/draining evaporators, maintenance and repair to evaporative condensers.
• Ability to operator both remote, central controls and local controls.
• Experience with blast freezers. Experience with 2 stage systems, swing compressors, high and low stage compressors, booster compressors, and associated systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot minor electrical and controls issues.
• Ability and willingness to participate in HAZMAT training and participation in HAZWOPR.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

• GCAP Operator 1 Certificate or similar from recognized Ammonia Refrigeration Training source.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
• Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
• Must be able to visually inspect machines.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to wear a respirator routinely and as part of the job.

The environment that individuals will be working in can fluctuate. Employees will be required to stand for anywhere between 6-8 hours, sometimes on a platform. They will frequently have to push, pull or lift to 30 pounds and occasionally push, pull, or lift to 50 pounds. Sharp objects such as knives, hooks, steel, and saws are utilized to perform the duties listed herein. The noise level is often loud, and hearing protection must be worn at all times. Additional PPE that may be required are safety glasses, mesh gloves/aprons, frocks, steel-toed boots, hard hats, face shields, surgical masks, and, in some cases, fall protection.
