Job summary

CJ Schwan's is hiring a full-time Refrigeration Maintenance Technician in Kentucky for evening shifts. You will inspect and service refrigeration systems, troubleshoot ammonia equipment, and support major plant projects while following strict safety protocols.

Required: 3+ years in refrigeration maintenance, strong electrical and mechanical skills, and ability to obtain forklift and boiler licenses. Competitive benefits and a comprehensive retirement plan are offered.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of refrigeration maintenance experience, preferably in an ammonia environment.
• Ability to safely don APR/SCBA and Hazmat certification preferred.
• Willingness to obtain forklift and boiler licenses as required.
• Commitment to OSHA safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily inspections and preventive maintenance on refrigeration systems (air conditioners, compressors, evaporators, boilers).
• Troubleshoot and repair ammonia refrigeration equipment and electrical components.
• Manage refrigeration parts inventory and record maintenance/repairs.
• Lead setup, teardown, fabrication, and installation of plant equipment for major repairs.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout, confined space, respirator protection, and fall protection protocols.

Starting Pay: $40
Additional $1.50 shift differential from 6 p.m. -- 6 a.m.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 PM - 3:30 AM

What You Will Do

• Conduct daily inspections and perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration systems including air conditioners, compressors, evaporators, and boilers to ensure optimal functionality and safety compliance.
• Troubleshoot and repair complex refrigeration equipment issues such as ammonia compressors, CO2 and freezer temperature monitors, and electrical components including I/O modules, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Potentially help manage refrigeration parts inventory; order necessary components and maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed.
• Lead setup, teardown, fabrication, and installation of plant equipment, supporting major repairs and construction projects related to stationary machinery and building infrastructure.
• Adhere to strict safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, and Fall Protection, and actively participate in Hazmat training and emergency response teams.

What You Will Bring

• High school diploma or GED; two-year degree in a specialized maintenance trade preferred.
• 3+ years of related refrigeration maintenance experience with advanced electrical and mechanical skills, strongly preferred in an ammonia refrigeration environment.
• Ability to safely don and operate air-purifying respirators (APR) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA); HAZMAT certification preferred. (CIRO is a big plus!)
• Must be able to obtain forklift and boiler licenses as required for job functions.
• Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and be committed to following all company and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
