Job summary

Schwan's Company is hiring for a maintenance technician focused on refrigeration systems in a food manufacturing setting. You will perform daily inspections, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs on ammonia refrigeration equipment, while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires 3+ years of related experience, strong electrical/mechanical skills, and hazmat knowledge. A forklift and boiler license may be obtained, with benefits and advancement opportunities in a growing

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; 2-year degree in a specialized maintenance trade preferred.
  • 3+ years of refrigeration maintenance experience with advanced electrical and mechanical skills, strongly preferred in ammonia refrigeration environments.
  • Ability to safely don and operate APR/SCBA; HAZMAT certification preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain forklift and boiler licenses as required for job functions.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and follow all safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily inspections and preventive maintenance on refrigeration systems (air conditioners, compressors, evaporators, boilers).
  • Troubleshoot and repair refrigeration equipment issues including ammonia compressors, CO2 and freezer monitors, and electrical components.
  • Possibly manage refrigeration parts inventory and maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs.
  • Lead setup, teardown, fabrication, and installation of plant equipment for major repairs and construction projects.
  • Adhere to safety protocols including LOTO, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, and Fall Protection; participate in Hazmat training.

Job description

Starting Pay: $40
Additional $1.50 shift differential from 6 p.m. -- 6 a.m.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:00 PM - 3:30 AM

What You Will Do
  • Conduct daily inspections and perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration systems including air conditioners, compressors, evaporators, and boilers to ensure optimal functionality and safety compliance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex refrigeration equipment issues such as ammonia compressors, CO2 and freezer temperature monitors, and electrical components including I/O modules, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Potentially help manage refrigeration parts inventory; order necessary components and maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed.
  • Lead setup, teardown, fabrication, and installation of plant equipment, supporting major repairs and construction projects related to stationary machinery and building infrastructure.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, and Fall Protection, and actively participate in Hazmat training and emergency response teams.
What You Will Bring
  • High school diploma or GED; two-year degree in a specialized maintenance trade preferred.
  • 3+ years of related refrigeration maintenance experience with advanced electrical and mechanical skills, strongly preferred in an ammonia refrigeration environment.
  • Ability to safely don and operate air-purifying respirators (APR) and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA); HAZMAT certification preferred. (CIRO is a big plus!)
  • Must be able to obtain forklift and boiler licenses as required for job functions.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and be committed to following all company and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
