A collision center refinish technician prepares a vehicle's surface and applies paint to restore its appearance after damage from an accident. Key duties include sanding, priming, masking, mixing and matching paints, and using spray guns to apply primers, base coats, and clear coats. This role requires strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and knowledge of various paint and surface preparation materials, with potential training through vocational programs or apprenticeships.

Key Responsibilities

Surface Preparation

Sizing, sanding, masking, and priming vehicle surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion and a smooth finish.

Paint Application

Using spray guns and other equipment to apply primers, base coats, and clear coats evenly and without defects.

Color Matching

Accurately mixing and blending paints to match the vehicle's original color or a custom request.

Quality Control

Inspecting the painted surface for imperfections and buffing or polishing as needed for a flawless result.

Tool and Equipment Maintenance
