Chevron Fire Department in Richmond, CA is hiring a Battalion Chief to lead a crew of 4–7 personnel and serve as Incident Commander during fire suppression, medical responses, hazmat, rescues, and other emergencies, ensuring safety and coordination across incident command and mutual aid.

The position requires a minimum of 5 years in emergency response, 3 years in leadership, ICS-100/200/300/700/800, Firefighter I, EMT, Haz-Mat credentials, and a valid California Class C Firefighter license;

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years in an emergency response organization.
  • Minimum 3 years in leadership within emergency response.
  • ICS-100, 200, 300, 700, 800 certifications.
  • California Class C Firefighter and/or Commercial Class A/B license.
  • Firefighter I certification (or equivalent).
  • Emergency Medical Technician certification.
  • Haz-Mat FRO/Technician/Specialist certification.
  • TWIC or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Rotational 12-hour schedule; nights, weekends, holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Leads Chevron Fire Department personnel and volunteers during all incidents.
  • Sets up the Incident Command System and oversees management on site.
  • Implements Unified Command with external authorities for rapid action.
  • Acts as liaison with municipal and mutual aid agencies.
  • Coordinates with City of Richmond Fire and Police during emergencies.
  • Responds to off-site emergencies under mutual aid agreements.
  • Participates in crew trainings and maintains Fitness for Duty.
  • Complies with drug screening as a safety-sensitive role.
