Job description

Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA), founded in 1975, is one of 57 federally-designated Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) in the United States. TOSA is committed to a mission of saving lives through organ donation by providing organ donation and recovery services to Central and South Texans wishing to donate, and to those waiting for life-saving transplants. Job Summary

The Referral Triage Coordinator supports TOSA's mission by responding to referral calls, conducting preliminary screenings to identify and document potential donors, evaluating referrals, and collaborating with medical and hospital staff to maximize medical management. The role requires medical and social skills, independence, and decision-making abilities within a fast-paced environment. The Donation Services Center operates 24/7.

Work Schedule

This full-time, non-exempt, fully remote position involves sharing 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule with other coordinators.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Triages organ, tissue, and eye referrals demonstrating quality customer service.
  2. Evaluates medical suitability of potential donors using medical records, history, physical exams, and current health status.
  3. Maintains electronic medical records (EMR) access to hospitals.
  4. Collaborates with physicians and hospital staff to manage referrals from initial contact through declaration of death or DCD evaluation.
  5. Understands legal and hospital requirements for declaration of death and organ donation.
  6. Identifies legal next-of-kin in accordance with state and UAGA statutes.
  7. Coordinates medical management with hospital staff, physicians, TOSA staff, and transplant centers to ensure optimal outcomes.
  8. Works with the AOC to dispatch staff for referral and family approaches.
  9. Maintains accurate documentation of referral and donor activities in records and databases.
  10. Consults with TOSA’s Medical Director and AOC as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Participates in educational and training programs for hospitals, transplant programs, and the public.
  2. Ensures compliance with TOSA’s Safety, Quality, and Multicultural Plans.
  3. Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
  1. Medical professional certification or Associate’s degree with at least 1 year of experience.
  2. Proficiency in medical terminology.
  3. Internet speed of 50 Mbps or higher.
  4. Professional work environment.
  5. Teamwork, clinical, analytical, organizational, and communication skills in a fast-paced setting.
  6. Knowledge of standard office equipment.
  7. Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality of donor information.
