Rochester Regional Health is seeking a Referral Specialist in the Heart Failure Office to coordinate scheduling of diagnostic testing and referrals, obtain insurance authorizations, and ensure accurate EMR documentation. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills and a focus on customer service.

The position is a full-time on-site role at 1415 Portland Avenue, with typical hours Monday–Friday, 8am–4:30pm, supporting multiple specialties and patient care coordination.

Qualifications

• Associate degree (preferred) in a related field and medical terminology experience.
• High school diploma or GED required; proficiency with MS Word/Excel and computer systems.
• Experience with medical scheduling, insurance authorization, referrals, or EMR systems is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Schedule MRI, CT, Neurology, Pain Management, and other specialized testing and referrals.
• Obtain insurance authorizations and pre-certifications and submit required documentation.
• Verify procedure and diagnosis codes needed for authorization.
• Coordinate appointments, facility arrival times, and patient instructions.
• Communicate with patients, providers, facilities, and insurance companies.
• Document authorizations, communications, and scheduling information accurately in the EMR.
• Assist self-pay and out-of-network patients with appropriate resources.
• Support scheduling policies, procedures, and efficient practice operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary - Sedentary roles are primarily office-based and require prolonged sitting (67-100% of the workday) with minimal physical effort and lifting limited to under 10 lbs. Fine motor skills are necessary for computer work, writing, and telephone use, supported by clear visual and auditory ability. Cognitive and emotional demands are high due to extended concentration, frequent interruptions, independent decision‑making, and information processing. Although physical exposure is low, administrative areas within healthcare environments may occasionally involve contact with infectious agents. Some roles may require flexible hours, TB screening, or a valid driver's license.
