Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Referral Management Specialist I to serve as the first point of contact for patients and referring physicians seeking access and referral information. You will facilitate referrals and schedule appointments across multiple specialties in a high-volume call center environment.

Responsibilities include triaging calls, answering questions, resolving issues, collecting accurate patient data, and supporting revenue cycle and customer service

Qualificações

  • Two years of medical office, call center, or patient access experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Typing speed of 35 CWPM.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Excel, and Internet navigation tools.

Job Description Summary

The Referral Management Specialist reports to theManager, Call Center Operations. Under general supervision, the Referral Management Specialist I serves as the initial point of contact for individuals and referring physicians seeking access and referral information for medical care at MUSC. This position facilitates the referral process and schedules appointments for multiple specialties and primary care physicians in a call center environment utilizing an automated scheduling system. This role triages patient calls according to established algorithms, answers questions, resolves issues and refers to appropriate clinical team for clinical issues as appropriate. This position performs quality data collection of accurate information including demographic, physician, insurance, employment, next of kin, emergency contacts and other miscellaneous information needed to complete the patient’s information. This role performs activities to ensure effective operations of the clinics, while enhancing the revenue cycle and providing the highest level of customer service.

Job Description

Education

High school diploma or equivalent (GED); college degree preferred.



Work Experience

Two years of experience in a medical office, call center, patient access area, or customer service in a business environment is required. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced call center environment. Working knowledge of computers and technology including Windows, Excel, and Internet/Intranet navigation tools required. Strong verbal, written, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a self-directed manner while interacting with patients, physicians, and departmental partners. Additional Requirements: Typing speed of 35 CWPM required.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
