The Referral Coordinator at Keck Medicine of USC is a motivated, organized, and efficient individual responsible for managing and coordinating patient referrals to appropriate providers, communicating with patients, supporting clinic synchronization, and handling authorizations and tests across various clinics. The role requires excellent telephone and interpersonal skills, efficient management of incoming consults, and team communication coordination. Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Access is essential, with PowerPoint skills being a plus. The position involves self-directed data input and prioritization based on clinical needs and deadlines.

The Healthcare Referral Coordinator for Charity Care & Community Resources plays a pivotal role in assisting the Care Coordination team. Responsibilities include facilitating patient referrals to charity care and financial assistance programs, and connecting patients with community services for additional support. This position demands strong organizational skills, cross-departmental collaboration, and relationship-building with community organizations.

Essential Duties:
  1. Manage The Change Reaction Angel Fund, providing emergency grants to patients/families in crisis, including assessing referrals, obtaining authorizations, entering information, monitoring status, and distributing funds.
  2. Manage accounting of Angel Fund distributions, including tracking grants, amounts, and fund balances.
  3. Facilitate patient referrals to charity care and financial assistance programs, coordinating with insurance and billing departments.
  4. Identify and establish partnerships with community programs and services, ensuring timely and appropriate referrals.
  5. Maintain accurate, confidential records of all referrals and report on their utilization and outcomes.
  6. Collaborate with hospital care teams to ensure holistic, patient-centered care and participate in interdisciplinary meetings.
  7. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards, staying updated on healthcare regulations.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City): must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not already held

The hourly rate range for this position is $25.00 - $39.69. USC considers various factors when extending employment offers, including experience, education, skills, and organizational considerations.
