Job summary

Utah State Archives in Salt Lake City seeks a Reference Archivist to provide core reference support, triage requests, and deliver high-quality customer service in person, by phone, and via email.

You will organize and manage tasks, assist with repository operations, and conduct archival research to facilitate access. Experience with Google Suite and an understanding of Utah history are valued.

Responsibilities

  • Provides core reference support, triages reference requests and responds accordingly.
  • Delivers high-quality customer service via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Organizes and self-manages assigned tasks.
  • Provides backup in the repository, including basic circulation duties.
  • Provides in-person service to the public, researchers, and agencies.
  • Conducts archival research in state collections to facilitate access.
  • Creates access and finding tools; develops outreach resources like blogs or posts.
  • Understands Utah history and records for facilitated access.

Job Details

FT / PT Status – Full-Time
Salary – $20.87 - $33.08 Hourly Wage
Remote Work / In-Office – In-Office / On-Site

Key Responsibilities

Typical duties for a Reference Archivist:

  • Provides core reference support, which includes triage of reference requests, responding to reference requests.
  • Deliver high quality of customer service through multiple means, i.e., phone, email, in-person.
  • Organizing and self management of assigned tasks.
  • Providing back up support in the collection repository, basic circulation functions and duties.
  • Ability to provide in-person customer service to the public, researchers, and other government agencies.
  • Ability to conduct archival research in the State's permanent collections to facilitate access.
  • Ability to create access and finding tools to help facilitate research and access. This also includes the ability to create outreach resources, i.e., blogs, social media posts.
  • Understanding of Utah's history and records generally held by the State. Allowing for facilitated access to other repositories as needed.
