Job summary

YMCA City Center in Lancaster is seeking a part-time Red Cross Instructor to lead engaging classes and help participants build essential safety, first aid, and lifesaving skills. The instructor will oversee class safety, manage materials, and deliver high-quality instruction in a supportive YMCA environment.

Under the Aquatics Director; you will collaborate with staff, recertify as needed, and ensure adherence to Red Cross standards and YMCA protocols while fostering a welcoming community

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Active American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), CPR PRO Instructor and Oxygen Instructor certifications.
• Complete the following within 1 month of hire: Aquatics Y Trainings, Praesidium Trainings, AmTrust Trainings.

Responsibilities

• Teaches all courses to Red Cross standards and follows YMCA protocols.
• Maintains safe and orderly learning environment; cleans and safeguards equipment.
• Maintains attendance records and uses approved attire for easy identification.
• Attends required staff meetings and certification renewals; coordinates with other instructors.

The YMCA City Center in Lancaster is seeking a Red Cross Instructor to lead engaging classes and help participants build essential safety, first aid, and lifesaving skills.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Aquatic Director, in cooperation with other YMCA staff, and consistent with the YMCA mission, the Red Cross Instructor is responsible for the instruction, leadership, supervision, control, and safety of all class participants. The instructor is responsible for the appearance, presentation, and working order of all materials and equipment used for American Red Cross course instruction. It is the instructor's responsibility to observe and direct all class participants, and to provide feedback and appropriate correction as instructed or included in the job description. This position is also responsible for identifying and responding appropriately to, customer and employee wants, needs, and expectations through caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and responsible actions and interactions that contribute to the relationship between employees and the YMCA organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
2. Develops relationships with staff, members and community partners to advance the mission of the YMCA.
3. Enhances YMCA of the Roses membership by demonstrating the Y core values.
4. Cleans equipment and protects equipment to create a safe learning environment.
5. Teaches all courses to the Red Cross standards, following all YMCA protocols.
6. Follows reporting and signage procedure regarding broken or missing equipment/supplies.
7. Maintain accurate attendance records
8. Wears appropriate and approved appropriate attire, therefore being easily identifiable by members
9. Serves as a role model for other staff members by demonstrating exemplary job skills and behavior
10. Attends required staff meetings, educational workshops and certifications
11. Maintains certification by getting recertified
12. Completes additional duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director
13. Coordinates with other instructors in the association for delivery of classes
