About The Role
SEIU 2015 is hiring a Recruitment Manager to bring on top talent in order to drive forward its mission. The organization is growing quickly, and this role is essential to building our team.
The Recruitment Manager is a people-driven and detail- and numbers-oriented project manager. This position will oversee recruitment and hiring — doing everything from writing job descriptions and sourcing to coaching managers through difficult hiring decisions to overseeing contract recruiters. This role will continuously look for ways to ensure a smooth, equitable process that results in hiring incredible candidates and a good candidate experience. Additionally, this role will continuously improve our recruitment pipeline, looking for other proactive opportunities to build a strong and diverse pipeline of candidates. This role reports directly to the Head of People and Culture. At times, this person will lead recruitment searches themselves, and at other times, this role will also manage recruiters, depending on the needs of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and execute robust hiring and onboarding processes that ensure we hire the best candidates and are setting them up for success as they enter the organization — this will include everything from writing job descriptions, sourcing, conducting phone screens or overseeing internal recruiters or external contractors to do these, designing and running the interview process, facilitating decision-making meetings, and seeing the process through to an accepted offer
- Lead, coach, supervise, assign, and evaluate team of staff including developing individual work plans and overseeing their implementation and evaluation
- Project manage recruitment and plan out our hiring timeline each quarter to assign resources needed to execute on the organization’s growth plans
- Ensure strong communication with both hiring managers and candidates throughout the process
- Build and manage relationships with external recruitment partners, colleges, universities, and workforce development organizations
- Identify the necessary recruitment technology, including an Applicant Tracking System, to smoothly manage hiring processes and run reports to make data-driven decisions about our recruitment program
- Bring a strong equity lens and processes to our hiring decisions at every stage in the process to ensure diverse candidate pools and great hires
- Collaborate with People & Culture team members on onboarding processes to ensure smooth transitions for new hires
- Build high performing teams, including development, accountability and oversight of personnel functions of the team - recruitment, interviews and staff hiring; staff schedules, approvals for time off, assignments
- Monitor labor market trends and recommend strategies to remain competitive in attracting talent
- Uphold SEIU Local 2015’s values by ensuring recruitment practices align with the union’s anti-racist, social justice, and cross-solidarity commitments
- Coach and support hiring managers throughout the hiring process, as well as give them feedback as it relates to hiring, decision-making, and equitable hiring practices
- Continuously build the candidate pipeline -- attending conferences, networking with other organizations, and doing informational interviews with strong potential candidates; develop prospecting systems to manage and track these candidates
- Analyze sourcing and recruitment to determine the most effective and cost-effective strategies
- Hire and manage contract recruiters and assign project work to in-house recruiters as needed

- This position may line manage other full-time staff
Qualifications
- 5+ years of prior experience and success recruiting within a nonprofit, union, startup, or other dynamic organization
- 2+ years of leading and developing experienced recruitment staff teams across multiple geographies
- Detail-oriented and organized project management experience -- this role will manage multiple hiring processes simultaneously without letting anything fall through the cracks
- Highly effective oral, written, and digital communication skills - both internally with hiring teams as well as external communication with candidates. The ability to keep all parties informed about the hiring process is key.
- Experienced sourcing executive and management level candidates
- Cultural competence to work with diverse staff and communities, with a commitment to building an anti-racist organization
- Ability to maintain accurate data and use data to guide decisions
- Proven track record filling hard-to-fill roles
- Experience overseeing high volume recruitment
- Experience coaching managers
- Experience using best practices around diversity and inclusion in recruitment and hiring
- Experience managing cross-organizational work, including giving feedback to staff who are not within your line management
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing environments and ability to work under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgment with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams to meet goals, manage projects and identify and implement strategic systems improvements

Work Environment
- This position is based in SEIU Local 2015’s office with a hybrid option (in-office and remote work).
- Requires frequent use of computers, phones, and virtual meeting platforms.
- May involve occasional evening or weekend work to support recruitment events or time-sensitive hiring needs.
- Some travel within California may be required to attend career fairs, recruitment events, and organizational meetings.
- Fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on collaboration, equity, and organizational mission.
