Job summary

Sheppard Pratt in Towson, MD is seeking a dedicated Recreational Therapist to deliver individual and group therapeutic recreational services to patients. The role requires scheduling Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm, and working in person within Rehabilitation Services.

You will screen patients, develop goals and treatment plans, document progress, and participate in program evaluation. A Bachelor's in Recreational Therapy with CTRS and CPR certification are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreational Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, or related field from an accredited program.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential through NCTRC at time of appointment.
• Maintains professional knowledge through meetings, workshops, courses, and in-service sessions.
• Knowledge of psychiatric diagnoses, behavioral health treatment modalities, anatomy/physiology, development, trauma-informed care, recovery-oriented care, and crisis management techniques.
• Interpersonal and communication skills to relate effectively to psychiatric patients of varying ages and backgrounds, with strong group facilitation.
• Analytical ability to combine observations to determine functional abilities and plan treatments.
• CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group therapeutic recreational services to patients as referred to address functional deficits.
• Screen patients, provide functional assessments, develop goals and modalities for treatment plans, and provide direct services.
• Communicate with patients across developmental stages (children to geriatrics).
• Document and reports patient progress to treatment team.
• Participate in program evaluation.
• Assist in training, orienting, and evaluating recreational therapy interns and volunteers when needed.
