Job Description
The Recreational Therapist provides evidence-based treatment for people with mental, physical or emotional disabilities or illnesses to improve or maintain their health and well-being. The Recreational Therapist will collaborate with other allied health specialists such as Physical, Occupational, and/or Creative Arts Therapists to plan, implement, and evaluate therapy interventions.
Essential Functions
- Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Plan, direct, deliver, and evaluate evidence-based recreational interventions for a full patient caseload in skilled facility, acute rehab, outpatient settings as appropriate.
- Participate in student education, typically with part-time students like ICE or higher.
- Complete education, teaching, and professional activities commensurate with a novice clinician.
- Assess, synthesize, and apply evidence-based literature in clinical practice. Review available information from referral sources and chart reviews, and document relevant information for therapeutic recreation planning and treatment.
- Document clients' participation and reactions during treatments, track patients' progress, and evaluate therapeutic effects.
- Provide adaptive equipment to help clients with disabilities participate in recreational activities as outlined in treatment plans.
- Select, develop, and implement recreational activities to help clients improve physical, mental, and social functions. Adapt activities to residents’ needs or disabilities.
- Participate in the department’s performance improvement program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor's degree or higher with concentration in recreational therapy (therapeutic recreation) plus specific support coursework.
Experience:
Completion of a minimum 14-week / 560-hour internship supervised by a CTRS.
0-2 years of clinical practice; 1 year preferred.
Minimum Certifications, Registration, or License Requirements:
NCTRC Certification required. CTRS required. Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) preferred.
