Job summary

Universal Health Services, Inc. in Utah seeks a dedicated Recreational Therapist to design and implement therapeutic recreation programs that support patients’ wellbeing.

You will join an interdisciplinary team to help set treatment goals and ensure effective discharge planning, with a focus on trauma-informed care. The role requires a Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation (or related field) and a valid CTRS credential, plus strong communication, crisis intervention, and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or a related field is required.
• Current CTRS credential and in good standing is required.
• State licenses/certifications may be required or eligible.
• Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric, or healthcare settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate therapeutic recreation programs supporting patients' physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being.
• Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and contribute to patient goals.
• Develop effective treatment plans and assist with discharge planning (average LOS 6–10 days).
• Support families and provide case management as part of care.

Your goals and objectives include:

• Plan and facilitate therapeutic recreation programs that support patients’ physical, emotional, and psychosocial well-being.
  Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning and contribute to the development and achievement of patient treatment goals.
• Developing effective treatment plans and working toward safe discharge planning (avg length of stay = approx. 6 - 10 days)
• Working with patients who have experienced past or current trauma, symptoms of anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation and substance use
• Providing strong family support and case management skills

Qualifications

Your Qualifications and Requirements will include:

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, or a related field required.
• Current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) credential required and must be maintained in good standing.
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain any state-required licenses, certifications, or registrations.
• Experience providing therapeutic recreation services in a behavioral health, psychiatric, or healthcare setting preferred.
• ABILITY TO SOME WORK WEEKENDS (SAT & SUN from 9am - 5pm)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, time management, and crisis intervention.
• Keep current with continuing education requirements for Utah licensure.
