Job summary

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, this position performs a variety of basic, entry-level duties supporting recreation programs, facilities, and events. Responsibilities focus on customer service, program assistance, and facility support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General Duties (All Assignments)
  • Provides courteous and respectful customer service to patrons, participants, and staff.
  • Assists with the setup and cleanup of recreation programs, events, and facilities.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas.
  • Follow established rules, policies, and safety procedures.
  • Responds to basic questions from the public, refers more complex issues to senior staff.
  • Work scheduled shifts, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Score Keeper
  • Keep score and tracks time during youth sports games and activities.
  • Operate scoreboards and timing devices as instructed.
  • Communicate with coaches, officials, and staff to support game flow.
  • Assist with basic setup and cleanup of equipment and playing areas.
Concessions Worker
  • Assist in preparing and serving food/ beverages within food safety guidelines.
  • Operate a cash register and handles simple transactions.
  • Maintain cleanliness of concession areas and assists with stocking supplies.
  • Follow directions related to food handling and sanitation.
  • Must have an active FOOD HANDLERS PERMIT.
Aquatics Front Desk Attendant
  • Greet patrons and assists with checking in patrons.
  • Provide general information about facility use and programs.
  • Answer phones and directs calls as needed.
Youth Sports Worker (Super Sport)
  • Assist staff with organizing and supervising youth sports activities.
  • Help set up and take down equipment and playing areas.
  • Encourage participation and positive behavior among participants.
  • Observe activities and reports safety concerns or issues to supervisors.
Knowledge of:
  • Customer Service and best practices.
  • Recreation program sports, operations, and activities.
  • Safety practices in recreation or aquatic environments.
Skilled in:
  • Managing interactions in a potentially stressful situation calmly.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver a positive recreational experience.
  • Explaining program rules, facility policies, and procedures in a way that is easy to understand.
Abilities to:
  • Follow detailed verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Recognize and respond to unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Perform physically active work, including lifting, bending, standing and walking for extended periods.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 14 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Must demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Applicants 18 years of age or older must pass a background check.
  • Required certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard, or Food Handler) apply only to assignments for which they are relevant and may need to be obtained within a specified timeframe after hire.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, lift light to moderate loads (25–50 lbs.), and have sufficient vision, hearing, and mobility to perform duties safely.

Work Environment:

Work occurs in indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, gyms, aquatic areas, and concession stands. Employees interact frequently with the public and participants. Outdoor work may expose employees to weather conditions, including heat, or cold. Noise levels may vary depending on the assignment.

Personal Protection Equipment:

Use of gloves, hair restraints, or safety/rescue equipment may be required depending on assignment. All employees must comply with PPE policies applicable to their position.
