Job summary

Spring Creek Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is seeking an experienced Recreation/Activity Director to lead and evolve our resident activity programs. This full-time role requires planning, evaluating, and directing activities that enhance quality of life within a compliant nursing setting.

Candidates should hold an ACD or CTRS certification, a high school diploma or GED, and have prior long-term care experience. Leadership skills and the ability to supervise staff are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Must possess HS diploma or GED; college degree preferred but not required.
• Must be a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or licensed activities professional or have two years in a patient activities program in health care; or be an OT/OTA; or completed state-approved training.
• Previous skilled nursing or long-term care experience required.
• Knowledge of regulations governing recreation services in nursing facilities.
• Leadership ability and willingness to supervise other personnel.
• Must complete post-offer, pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activity programs of the Facility.
• Stay current with federal and state regulations and professional standards; advise on policy changes to the Administrator.
• Provide consultation to staff and community agencies to solve resident needs via activity programs.
• Direct the Recreation Department with authority and accountability.
• Review resident assessments and quality measures; adjust programs as needed.
• Delegate admin duties to recreation staff as appropriate to their roles.
• Standardize methods for activity program delivery and administration.
• Schedule movies, parties, and activities for residents.
• Encourage hobbies and crafts; provide materials when needed.
• Develop and maintain an activity schedule.
• Encourage educational development through reading and related activities.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 based on experience.

Requirements of the Recreation/Activity Director

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED. College Degree preferred but not necessary.
• Must be a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an activities professional who is licensed by this state and is eligible for certification as a recreation specialist or as an activities professional; or must have, as a minimum, two (2) years experience in a social or recreation program within the last five (5) years, one (1) of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting; or must be a qualified occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant; or must have completed a training course approved by this state.
• Previous skilled nursing or long term care experience required
• Must be knowledgeable of regulations governing recreation services in nursing care facilities.
• Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
• Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing recreation services.Must be able to relate information concerning a resident's condition.
• Must successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check and physical / drug screen.

Responsibilities of the Recreation/Activity Director

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activity programs of the Facility.
• Keep abreast of current federal and state regulations, as well as professional standards of practice, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the Administrator.
• Provide consultation to members of our staff, community agencies, etc., in efforts to solve the needs and problems of the resident through the development of activity programs.
• Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the Recreation Department.
• Participate in the review and completion of appropriate resident assessment items, review of quality indicators, quality measures, survey results, appropriate to recreation services and make necessary changes that correct identified or potential problem areas.
• Delegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to other recreation personnel as deemed necessary to perform their assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Assist in standardizing the methods in which activity programs will be performed and/or administered.
• Schedule movies, plan parties, and provide games and activities for residents.
• Encourage residents to participate in hobbies and crafts. Provide materials, as necessary.
• Develop and maintain an activity schedule.
• Encourage residents to develop their educational development through reading, etc.
