Job summary

Wood County is seeking a Recreation Therapy Aide at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards, WI. This full-time position supports recreation activities to enhance residents’ physical, mental, and social well-being.

Responsibilities include transporting residents, setting up activities, purchasing supplies, maintaining calendars and attendance, and assisting with event planning. A high school diploma and CPR are preferred; CDL is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Prior responsible work experience preferably with geriatric persons.
• CPR certification preferred; but can be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• A valid Wisconsin CDL Class C with P endorsement preferred, or ability to acquire.
• Thorough knowledge of recreational and entertainment activities.

Responsibilities

• Transport residents to and from activities and encourage participation.
• Set up and take down equipment/supplies for activities; prepare food as required.
• Purchase activity supplies.
• Complete forms for dietary, birthdays, foods and activities.
• Deliver personal event calendars to residents.
• Maintain activity attendance records and charts progress.
• Deliver residents’ mail.
• Follow safety policies of the County and work safely.

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to assist with recreation therapy activities and events within nursing home residents’ interest for their physical, mental, social and psychological well being.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Transport residents to and from activities. Assist, encourage and motivate residents to participate in daily activity programs, both individual and in groups according to established calendar of events.
2. Set up and take down equipment/supplies for activities. Prepare food as required.
3. Purchase activity supplies.
4. Complete a variety of forms for dietary, birthdays, foods and activities.
5. Deliver personal event calendars to residents.
6. Maintain activity attendance records and charts progress.
7. Delivers residents’ mail.
8. Responsible to know and practice the Safety policies of the County. Perform all job tasks in a safe and prescribed manner.

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Monitor wander guard unit.
2. Transports residents to activities. Operates bus.
3. Maintain aviary and aquarium.
4. Display seasonal decorations.
5. Update resident interest books.
6. Plant flowers and weed flower beds, as needed. Pick flowers when in bloom and arrange them in vases for residents’ enjoyment.
7. Assist families with party planning.
8. Conduct unplanned activities.
9. Assist volunteers.
10. Attend required meetings.
11. Any other duties as may be assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior responsible work experience preferably with geriatric persons. Ability to perform data entry and retrieval of information in computer terminal required. CPR Certification preferred; but can be obtained within 30 days of hire. A valid Wisconsin Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class C, with the “P” endorsement preferred, or ability to acquire. Possession of a safe driving record and the ability to maintain one while employed by Wood County. Thorough knowledge of recreational and entertainment activities. Demonstrated ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner. Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
