Job summary

Millwood Hospital, part of Universal Health Services, Inc. in Arlington, TX, seeks a Recreation/Activity Therapy Counselor to plan and implement activity services within an interdisciplinary team.

The role focuses on defining and pursuing treatment goals while providing continuous patient care, observation and modeling for patients. The position requires a Bachelor's in Art, Music, or Recreation therapy (Masters in Art Therapy preferred), plus relevant certification/licensure and CPR/CPI

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in art, music, recreation therapy or related therapeutic discipline; a Masters in Art Therapy is preferred.
• One year of related experience with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques.
• Certification or licensure in art, recreation, or music therapy.
• CPR Certification and CPI Behavior Training completed prior to starting; current First Aid certifications; overtime and flexible hours may be required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement activity services for the assigned program within the interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Provide continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.
• Define treatment goals and monitor progress as part of the care team.

Responsibilities

Millwood Hospital (a UHS affiliated hospital) is a 134-bed mental health facility that provides inpatient and outpatient mental health and chemical dependency treatment. Millwood's caring, and multidisciplinary staff has successfully provided inpatient and outpatient mental health and chemical dependency care to children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults since 1971. Millwood Hospital is located in Arlington, TX in the heart of the city. It is 5 minutes away from AT&T Stadium home of the Dallas Cowboys. The hospital is less than 35 minutes from DFW International Airport. The Recreation/Activity Therapy Counselor is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

SHIFT DIFF PAY AVAILABLE FOR SOME SHIFTS.

Must be available to attend the Full hospital and departmental orientations: Week 1: Monday - Friday (8 AM - 5 PM)

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Art, Music, or Recreation therapy, humanities, social work or related therapeutic discipline, or a Masters degree in Art Therapy, preferred.

Experience: One (1) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Licensure: Certification or licensure by state and/or national governing body in of the following areas: art, recreation, or music therapy.

Additional Requirements: Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of CPI Behavior Training prior to beginning work. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours. Current First Aid certifications.
