Job summary

Millwood Hospital in Arlington, TX (a UHS affiliated hospital) is seeking a Recreation/Activity Therapy Counselor to plan and deliver activity services as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team, supporting treatment goals and patient engagement.

This role provides ongoing patient care, observation, and role modeling to children through senior adults, with shift diff pay for some shifts and the requirement to attend hospital orientations.

Qualifications

• CPR certification and CPI behavior training completed prior to start.
• Bachelor's degree in art, recreation, or related therapy discipline required.
• Masters in art therapy preferred and licensure as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement activity services to support defined treatment goals.
• Provide continuous patient care, observation, interaction and role modeling.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment team to guide therapy plans.

The Recreation/Activity Therapy Counselor is responsible for planning and implementing activity services for assigned program, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.

SHIFT DIFF PAY AVAILABLE FOR SOME SHIFTS.

Must be available to attend the Full hospital and departmental orientations: Week 1: Monday - Friday (8 AM - 5 PM)

Qualifications

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Art, Music, or Recreation therapy, humanities, social work or related therapeutic discipline, or a Masters degree in Art Therapy, preferred.

Experience: One (1) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness, preferred.

Licensure: Certification or licensure by state and/or national governing body in of the following areas: art, recreation, or music therapy.

Additional Requirements: Successful completion of CPR Certification and successful completion of CPI Behavior Training prior to beginning work. May be required to work overtime and flexible hours. Current First Aid certifications.
