Job summary

Del Amo Behavioral Health System, a subsidiary of UHS, is seeking an Activity Therapist on a per diem basis to supervise and coordinate patient activities within the Adjunctive Therapy program, helping restore functioning and promote well-being.

The role involves organizing music, art, recreation and related therapies, directing patient participation, and supporting skill learning to improve health outcomes in a compassionate inpatient/outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• Degree in Recreation, Music, Art, or appropriate program is required.
• Minimum one year experience in a psychiatric setting preferred; knowledge of arts, crafts, sports, games, and group activities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the activities of patients in the Adjunctive Therapy program to facilitate rehabilitation.
• Organize and conduct music, art, recreation, or other therapy programs as appropriate.
• Direct patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce and enhance performance.
• Support learning of skills essential for adaptation and productivity, and promote health.

Job Responsibilities

The Activity Therapist supervises and coordinates the activities of patients in the Adjunctive Therapy program to facilitate rehabilitation of physically, mentally or emotionally disabled patients. The Activity Therapist follows policies, procedures, standards and objectives for the treatment of patients; complies with performance improvement program. May organize and conduct music, art, recreation, or other therapy programs, depending on specialty. Directs patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce and enhance performance. Facilitates the learning of skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity, diminish or correct pathology, to promote and maintain health.

Qualifications

Education: Degree in Recreation, Music, Art, or appropriate program required.

Experience:

• Minimum one (1) year experience in psychiatric setting preferred;
• Working knowledge of the psychiatric process and its relationship to arts, crafts, sports, games, small/large group activities preferred.
