Job summary

Midwest Center for Youth and Families in Indiana is seeking a caring Recreation Therapist to join our DBT-focused program for children and adolescents ages 10-18. You will assess patients, set individualized recreational goals, and coordinate therapeutic recreation activities within the DBT framework.

This full-time on-site role requires a Bachelor's in Therapeutic Recreation, 2+ years' related experience, and certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or degree equivalency from an accredited college or university.
• A minimum of two years of related work experience, with knowledge of mental health diagnoses preferred.
• Licensed or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist required.
• Must be 21 years old

Responsibilities

• Provide activities to meet the individual needs of our patients following a program group schedule.
• Plan, organize, and implement outings.
• Complete skills assessment to evaluate level of functioning within 10 days of admission.
• Complete documentation on patient groups provided

Available Hours: Monday - Friday, 10am - 6:30pm, rotating Saturday/Sunday

Midwest Center for Youth and Families (a subsidiary of UHS) has been in operation since 1997, serving youth across the country that are in need of psychiatric treatment for variety of mental health issues. The Midwest Center is a respected healthcare provider, fully accredited, 74-bed private, residential treatment facility with locations in Valparaiso and Kouts, IN.

We are dedicated to care of the hearts and minds of our patients with compassion and superior quality behavioral healthcare services through our full-immersion Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program for children and adolescents ages 10 - 18 who struggle with emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges.

The Patriot Support Program at Midwest Center offers specialized treatment designed to address the behavioral health needs and challenges of the children of active-duty military, reserve, and national guard members.

Position Summary

Complete an assessment of the patient's condition, and formulate and implement individualized recreational goals. You will provide and coordinate therapuetic recreation programming, and manage cases in conjunction with the DBT programming model.
