Job summary

Harborview Medical Center’s Harborview Rehab Therapy is seeking a Recreation Therapist 2 for part-time day shifts. You will assess, plan, develop and implement therapeutic recreation services for patients with complex conditions, including burns, brain injury, pain and mental health.

You will supervise students and volunteers, work with an interdisciplinary team, and lead recreational activities inside and outside the hospital to support patients’ social, cognitive, emotional and physical

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program.
  • 18 months of professional therapeutic recreation experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to assess and plan patient-specific recreation interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex assessments and develop plans of care for patients.
  • Facilitate improvement of social, cognitive, emotional and physical abilities.
  • Instruct patients in adapting to recreational and community environments.
  • Organize and lead hospital-based and community recreation activities.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and families to tailor programs.
  • Direct, train and coordinate students/volunteers in therapeutic procedures.

Harborview Rehab Therapy has an outstanding opportunity for a Recreation Therapist 2.

Work Schedule

Part‑Time / 34 hours per week Day Shifts

Position Highlights

Provide therapeutic recreational services to patients with complex conditions or injuries in a specialty service such as burns, brain injury, pain, and mental health. Under general direction, assess, plan, develop, and implement therapeutic recreation services for patients with complex physical and/or mental disabilities. Direct the work of and evaluate recreation therapy students and/or volunteers.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Perform complex assessments of patients in a specialty service; plans, organizes and implements therapeutic recreation plan of care to meet individual patient needs; implements intervention techniques to bring about specific behavioral change or improvement in patients
  • Facilitate improvement of social, cognitive, emotional and physical functional abilities
  • Instruct the patient in adapting to the recreational and community environment
  • Organize and lead recreational therapy activities both in and outside of the hospital environment
  • Confer with the interdisciplinary team, individual patients, and family members to develop and recommend patients’ therapeutic recreational program
  • Direct, train and coordinate the work of recreation therapy students and/or volunteers in therapeutic recreational procedures such as patient assessment and community integration; provides feedback to students on progress and completes evaluation for educational program
Requirements

Graduation from an accredited Therapeutic Recreation Program AND 18 months of professional therapeutic recreation experience OR equivalent education/experience.

Compensation, Benefits and Position Details
