Home and Community Recreation Therapy (HCRT) supports people with disabilities (primarily traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury) in achieving greater health, independence, functional outcomes and enjoyment through active, meaningful lifestyles. The CTRS will be responsible for designing individualized services that reflect each client’s interests, support networks, and pre-injury lifestyles to promote functional improvement and meeting therapeutic goals. Therapists bring strong knowledge of community resources and creative adaptations to make recreational activities accessible and rewarding. Services are delivered primarily 1:1, with frequency ranging from multiple times per week to monthly sessions, and unique group programming is also offered through HCRT for appropriate clients and developed collaboratively with clients to address their treatment goals.
The Recreation Therapist is a contract role based in the Detroit Metropolitan Area and we also have a need in the Lansing area as well. It's a hybrid work arrangement, combining community-based sessions with some work from home for planning and documentation. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing clients’ leisure interests and functional abilities, developing individualized treatment plans, and facilitating recreation therapy sessions in home, community, and small group settings. The role involves adapting activities to support physical, cognitive, social, and emotional goals, while promoting inclusion, independence, and quality of life. The Recreation Therapist will collaborate with clients, families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary providers, maintain accurate progress notes, and regularly evaluate and adjust interventions to align with client goals.
