The role requires working with participants to adapt activities, provide supervision, and support daily living needs as needed. CPR/First Aid and CPI certifications must be maintained within three months of hire.
The function of the Recreation Specialist (RS) working in an Inclusive Program is to facilitate the participation of the individual(s) with a disability in the community recreation program. The RS will work in cooperation/collaboration with the community center staff. The ultimate goal is to foster full participation of the individual(s) with a disability in the recreational setting.
Principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups.
Strategies to include individuals with disabilities in a group setting and how their disability may affect their participation.
Child development and age-appropriate behavioral expectations
Office environment: exposure to computer screens; working closely with others. Outdoor environments: exposure to extreme weather conditions; slippery/uneven surfaces; high noise levels.
Duties require maintaining physical conditions necessary for lifting and/or transferring individual with disability independently or assisted; standing, bending, stooping, kneeling; general manual dexterity required.
