Riverdale City is hiring a part-time Recreation Specialist to coordinate recreational programs and activities for residents of all ages. The role supports the City's recreation offerings, fosters community engagement, and assists with special events under the supervision of the Community Services Coordinator.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, enjoy public service, and provide excellent customer service while promoting a positive Riverdale City image.

Qualifications

  • Two years of progressively responsible experience in recreation, community services, event coordination, or closely related duties.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support City recreation programs and activities.
  • Assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of community recreation services.
  • Promote positive public relations and maintain a favorable image of Riverdale City.
  • Monitor, maintain, and control the use of recreation equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with the City's annual Old Glory Days Celebration and other special events.
  • Collaborate effectively with City staff, volunteers, community partners, and participants.
  • Provide excellent customer service to residents and program participants.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary: $20.84 - $34.06 per hour
Starting salary will generally be at the lower end of the salary range,depending on qualifications (DOQ).

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Community Services Coordinator,the Recreation Specialist coordinates the day-to-day operations of Cityrecreation programs and activities. This position helps ensure qualityrecreational experiences for participants while promoting a positive image ofRiverdale City within the community.

The Recreation Specialist may also provide guidance and oversight topart-time staff and volunteers as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate andsupport City recreation programs and activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Two (2) yearsof progressively responsible experience performing recreation, communityservices, event coordination, or closely related duties; or
  • An equivalentcombination of education and experience that provides the requiredknowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Recreationprogram development and administration.
  • Rules andregulations associated with various sports and recreational activities.
  • Personalcomputers and common software applications, including:
    • Microsoft Word
    • Spreadsheets
    • General officesoftware programs

Ability to:

  • Establish andmaintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers,community organizations, participants, and the public.
  • Workeffectively with individuals from a variety of age groups and backgrounds.
  • Communicateclearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Manage multipletasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstratesound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
Special Qualifications
  • Valid driver'slicense preferred.
Work Environment

This position works in both office and outdoor environments. Dutiesrequire a variety of physical activities, including:

Successful performance requires effective communication, visualobservation, hearing, attention to detail, and sound judgment. The positionalso requires frequent local travel as part of normal job responsibilities.
