The City of Carson’s Parks and Recreation Division is seeking two passionate and experienced Recreation Specialist – Dance Instructors to support our Enrichment Program. This role is ideal for a dedicated dance professional with experience in tap, ballet, or performing arts who enjoys working with the community and inspiring individuals of all ages through movement and artistic expression.

The ideal candidate will play a vital role in delivering high-quality dance instruction as part of our enrichment program. This position requires a commitment of at least two days per week during the fall and spring seasons. The candidate should have prior experience teaching or assisting in structured dance programs and be comfortable working with diverse age groups. A degree in Dance, Performing Arts, or a related field is highly desirable.

Work Schedule: Weekday hours will vary between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM

Age: Must be 18 years old or older

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, conduct special interest classes at various recreation centers. This role will also assist with reservations by inputting and maintaining class and activity data, managing registration, and handling the department's social media pages. Duties may include:
  • Planning, organizing, and instructing special interest classes or programs.
  • Developing and scheduling classes for various age groups.
  • Preparing reports on the status of classes or programs.
  • Performing duties as a sports official on an urgent basis if required.
Qualifications include:

Education and/or Experience:
Completion of formal education sufficient to read and write at a functional level and demonstrate proficiency in relevant areas.

Knowledge of:
  • Special interest areas of instruction; correct English usage.

Skills and Abilities to:
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and deal tactfully with the public.
Physical requirements include standing, stooping, reaching, bending, and the ability to lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Work conditions are typical of a recreation environment, with accommodations considered for disabilities.
