Position: Recreation Specialist Boat House
Salary: $25.00/hour + DOE
Location: Kodiak, AK

Incumbent will operate under the supervision of the Boat House Manager and MWR Programs Chief.
April-October: Assists with planning, developing, organizing, and carrying out the MWR Boat House program for active-duty military, dependents, retirees, and authorized civilians. Assists the Boat House Manager with rigging, maintenance and troubleshooting of outboard and kicker engines. Maintains all electronic equipment, 12v electrical, fuel and navigation systems, and other mechanical needs on 23’ Pacific morale boats. Supports private boating (wet/dry/ball moorage), boat rentals, camper and ATV trailer rentals, and resale operations. Drives, trails, washes, refuels, and conducts basic maintenance on small boats, RV and ATV trailers, small engines (lawn mowers, weedwhackers, etc.) and other MWR mechanical equipment. Conducts routine inspection of equipment and boating facilities and informs manager of maintenance or repair needs. Conducts boating safety orientation courses and plans and conducts special events such as classes and fishing tournaments. Assists with safety and cleanliness of the entire boating area. Plans and prepares for tsunami to protect Marina assets. Operates 2‑1/2‑ton truck and forklift as required to relocate boats, trailers, and equipment. Acts as shift lead for up to six NAF and Active‑Duty Coast Guard staff assigned to the boating operations.
November-March: Assists all MWR facility managers with planning, developing, organizing, and carrying out the MWR mission for active-duty military, dependents, retirees, and authorized civilians. Assists with maintenance on equipment and gear across all facilities, updating inventories, and performing manual labor tasks using hand and power tools.
While working at any MWR facility: Welcomes customers and maintains product knowledge. Reacts to all customer concerns quickly. Communicates product availability. Upholds customer service standards. May complete financial transactions using POS register and credit card machines. Assists with financial, property, safety, personnel, marketing, training and other reports as required. Works with Marketing to publicize programs and special events. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Reports workplace hazards, injuries, illness or property damage promptly. Performs other duties as assigned.
