Job Title: Recreation Services Specialist

Summary

The Recreation Services Specialist (RSS) plays a key role in ensuring the efficient operation, cleanliness, and overall functionality of Green Valley Recreation (GVR) facilities. This position supports both the daily needs of members and staff, ensuring that all recreational spaces are properly maintained and equipped. The RSS is instrumental in promoting a positive and welcoming environment, while also providing essential custodial and operational support to ensure facilities are safe, clean, and attractive for all users.

In addition to performing regular custodial duties, the RSS is responsible for managing a variety of supplies, equipment, and vendor relationships across multiple sites. The role is crucial in facilitating smooth day-to-day operations, from setting up rooms for activities and events to handling inventory and maintaining equipment. The RSS also plays an important part in supporting staff and members by addressing concerns, offering solutions, and ensuring all members have access to the resources and assistance they need.

As an integral part of the GVR team, the RSS will collaborate closely with other departments, including Custodial and Facilities, to optimize the overall experience for both employees and members. The role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety throughout all facilities.

Schedule: Sunday through Wednesday, 6 am - 5 pm

Essential Job Functions

  • Engage with members in a friendly and positive manner, addressing questions and concerns promptly.
  • Maintain a visible presence in assigned center(s) to provide assistance and answer inquiries.
  • Familiarize yourself with current GVR classes, events, and activities, and encourage suitable options to members and guests.
  • Arrange, dismantle, or relocate equipment like tables and chairs for member activities, ensuring setups are according to diagrams where applicable.
  • Ensure setups without fixed configurations are returned to their original layout.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sanitizing, sweeping, mopping, and dusting both indoor and outdoor facilities as per GVR policies.
  • Adhere to daily, weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules to uphold cleanliness standards, especially in fitness centers.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to address safety concerns and policy violations promptly.
  • Communicate with members and staff regarding setups and maintain room setup records.
  • Set up audiovisual equipment for meetings or special events as needed.
  • Assist members with self-service options on kiosks.
  • Verify membership status using membership, guest, and tenant cards.
  • Manage inventory of materials and cleaning supplies for 17 sites
    • Manage vendor relationships with the best value for GVR in mind
    • Manage supplies budgets and maintain purchasing records
    • With theCustodial Supervisor, establish the standard contents of custodial supply closets and conduct regular reviews of those spaces to ensure supplies and tools are both available to staff and being properly handled by staff
    • Track distribution to ensure prudent use of supplies and tools
      • Notifies supervisor when patterns of over or underuse emerge
      • Establishes and maintains a supplies requisition process
  • Manage inventory of recreation supplies and equipment for 17 sites (fitness equipment excluded)
    • Manage vendor relationships with the best value for GVR in mind
    • Manage supplies budgets
    • Conduct regular reviews of those spaces to ensure supplies and tools are both available to members and being properly handled
    • Track distribution to ensure prudent use of supplies and tools
      • Notifies supervisor when patterns of over or underuse emerge
      • Establishes and maintains a supplies requisition process
  • Establish a supply request process
  • Receive and stock supply deliveries
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on equipment and tools within scope. Arrange for routine maintenance and repairs of mechanical tools, as needed.
  • Establish working relationships with relevant GVR clubs to develop SOPs for supply and equipment maintenance
  • Adhere to and promote GVR policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, fire codes, etc.).

Qualifications

Qualifications – Qualifications to effectively perform the job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least two years relevant experience (e.g. bookkeeping, inventory management, warehousing)
  • Must obtain and maintain current CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens certification within 30 days of employment. Certification provided by GVR.
  • Must be willing to submit to a pre-hire background and drug screening.

  • Must be able to read, write, and be fluent in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, in person and via telephone.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles, cell phones and/or radio equipment, telephones, computers, copiers, etc.

  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, communicate proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of organizational goals.
  • Ability to perform effectively, meet deadlines, and maintain composure under time constraints and at times, stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of GVR operations, services, policies and procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of, and the ability to follow OSHA regulations, SDS standards, and precautions regarding blood-borne pathogens.
  • Ability to work independently and apply decision-making skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • General computer proficiency, including the ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite, email, and the Internet.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage databases
  • Comply with OSHA, local fire codes, and other regulations as required.
